I think hamsters are terrible pets for children they stay awake all night and are noisy, can be grumpy if poked at, and children's attention span means they can get bored of them easily and become neglectful. It's much better if the parents have the hamsters and involve the children. I've always loved hamsters though As for the cage size people laugh and say my hamster lives in a palace and can't understand why a little pet needs so much room, but you can't have too much space with a hamster as she uses all of it.

The (very nice) lady I bought my Savic Ruffy Rat Cage off for my hamster asked if my hamster has a tiara. Said hamster is now known as Princess Doodah.

I think most of my friends understand that I feel the way I do about hamsters although they don't understand why. They humour me though.

Err 40+ with 5 lol
People that i work with were originally shocked when i got them as apparently im "not the type to like small furries" which kinda hurt.
Some peoples responses to me being upset about loosing Puff n Buddy was "its just a hamster" or "get another"
Pretty sure my vet thinks im crazy as im there almost everyweek and every month the day before pay day i look for things my furbs need, and my daughter says i pay them more attention than i do her, but in my defence she comes home and goes straight upstairs.

I think if you're too old to enjoy fury cuteness you're gonna be a pretty boring person. All my pets are part of the family weather it a hamster or a stick insect

If I've done my math right I've worked out the volume of Zoes home, approximately 11,576.3 inches3. Does that sound right? because the number seems big o_O

Get it all the time, people arn't interested in hamsters or stories about them.
We have just had a new person start in my department, she noticed the pics round my PC of all my pets and ones at Rainbow Bridge (dogs & hamsters). I told her they were my hamsters and she said, why hamsters they are boring all they do is sniff around a bit in shavings. I said no they are cuddly and funny and soft & cute, she said not cuddly (i disagree) another work person said don't get her started on hamsters. I said they got xmas presents she had a look of horror on her face and said what do you get them, another work person then said what didn't she get them. i shown her Sirius's cage and she again looked horrified at it. She said I must have too much money (I wish) or no life. She told me that she thinks that I am mad / out of my mind because of my love of hamsters and how i treat them. Yesterday I really did horrify her I bought some live crickets during lunch break, she saw them and asked what they were i told he and said they were for the hams (you should have seen her face), she asked why i told her they love them, she said something dumb like how do you know to which I said because they pounce on them and gobble them up, I told her they are omnivores (she asked what thats meant, so i explained . She asked whats wrong with hamster food, I said nothing but I like to give variety, she thinks i am deranged. (sorry for long post)

@Scampi16, sounds like someone i used to know, way to make yourself part of the department eh??
grrr..
I do probably talk about my furbs a bit too much and ive probably been laughed at because of them but heres what i think... I cant be that bad a person if my pet of choice is small, furry, four legged, twitchy nosed escape artist, thats spoiled rotten and probably plots to take over the world nightly, or perhaps thats my devious plan

OMG! You totally cracked me up with the cricket story. You should have told her how we're supposed to crush their heads if the mealies are alive so they don't bite the hammy's mouth. Some people just have no ability to connect to animals. Ah well, we all understand.

Yuk! I wouldn't be able to feed live things. My rats have dried mealworms but Zoe doesn't like them
