Unhappy Advice needed about my job

So i know it's gone 1am but I needed to post this. I just wondered if you guys could help me as I feel like I can't tell anyone else. I've just started a Christmas temp job in a shop (been there 4 day) and I hate it and I mean really hate it. I have really bad anxiety anyway and it's just making it worse to the point where I'm crying all the time which is leading to panic attacks (I've never been like this in any other jobs). I really want to quit and not turn up for work tomorrow. As I think if it's making me this ill why I'm I still there. I sorted out all the delivery today on my own and I heard someone say I've been behind all day and I know someone else has said something about me today which made me even more upset I'd seriously not go tomorrow but really I'm afraid of telling my parents as I feel they don't understand how bad it is. What do you guys think I should?

Oh and thanks if you have read my post and replied.

What I would do is go directly to your supervisor and ask them how you're doing and for advice on how to be better at your job. Some places can be really toxic and sometimes the longtime staff don't take kindly to outsiders. I'm not sure why that is but it can happen anywhere. Try not to let it bother you. Your supervisor is the one you need to listen to. They're not in charge, they're just bullies who can't stand that someone might do a better job than them

Four days on the job; and others are complaining you are behind. Absurd.

When I was trained for a part time job in a store years ago, the owner told me that
training takes about 3 months....for a basic clerk position, running cash register, restocking shelves, etc.

These employees gave you 4 DAYS???

That is completely unreasonable.

I hope you can find a way to keep their problems from affecting you.
(I can think a couple reasons they're being unreasonable; they knew and liked the person who had your job before - and now they have to get to know a new person, if they are as young as I suspect they are....then they could just be trying to show off and/or act important. Or they are jealous)

I like what the first poster said about talking to your supervisor. That can take a lot of courage. But please remember to tell yourself that 4 days is not enough to become proficient at any job. Even a surgeon who starts a new job at a new hospital has a whole new systems operation to learn, staff rotation to adjust to, and many other things!!! There is a learning curve with EVERY job!

But geez. No wonder you don't feel like going back to work. But I believe you have the right to stand up for yourself, talk to the super, and stick with this job until you see that you have what it takes.

I'm on your side! You're not being treated fairly by the others. So be sure YOU treat yourself fairly!

Thanks lenarenee, you gave better and more detailed advice than I did Definitely you need more than 4 days! No one can fault you, especially with having so much thrust on you so early. Surely if you're still in training you have a mentor, presumably your direct supervisor (there's usually a hierarchy of command depending on the size of the business) so start at the next highest person above you and go from there. Take care of yourself, have a nice hot bath and get some sleep. You need to take care of yourself first and foremost!

Thank you so much guys! I just needed someone to know about my problem. One of the managers was the one talking about me and the other women who said I was behind was in her 40s I have no support from anyone there and I'm just expected to know what I'm doing and if I don't then there not happy. How can I know what I'm doing when I've had no training. I feel as though I can't give it time as it's just going to get worse there and make me even more ill. So I've decided to leave and not turn up for work today I've signed no contract so I'm not tied to them. I don't know how my parents will react but they'll just after understand. There is surely got to be another job that's better than this.

Well done for leaving a stressful situation. No sense in being there if you can't stand it.

HollyHamster and Ewins87 thank you. It's nice to know that you think I'm doing the right thing. I feel relived that I'm not going back just scared to tell my parents. I hope everything will work out in the end.

Hi Serena. I don`t know your position right now or if this job was anything to do with your Job Centre? Was it a case of a real job (you applied for it yourself?) or were you placed there by someone at a Job Centre? It does sound like you were put there without really wanting to be there, although the environment you have found yourself in sounds a little toxic already and these people voicing their opinions is quite disgusting and does nothing to help you or your self esteem.

Keep yourself right. Never sign ANYTHING until you have had a chance to read through any contract or any pit-falls, should you leave before your time with the employer is up unless you have a valid reason, Job Centre staff can sanction jobseekers now, so make sure you keep yourself right as you don`t want any benefits you are on being stopped. Assuming you are on benefits that is!!

Feeling anxious can mean you have a slight mental health issue going on due to feeling stressed. I have no idea what your health is like, but all I will say is, if you have any feelings of anxiety or depression, your GP is really the best person to talk to. He/she will record this and any episodes you have had, or have and I`s also a safety net for you as well if you are in a position where you don`t like a job and need a way out through your health. But your GP needs to know this because he/she can always back this up by saying that you do have these issues.

I remember having a Christmas job thrown at me once years ago in the middle of winter on a farm where I had to sit in a cold caravan taking phone calls from meat distributors and watching lorry loads of chickens being shipped in and out through the window. Being an animal lover and looking back, I was within my rights to refuse this temp work, but because I wasn`t as savvy as I am now, I couldn`t refuse it as I felt pressured into taking it.

Let us know how things go and don`t let anyone get you down hun. x

Hi, racinghamster thank you! I'm not on job seekers allowance and have found this job by myself HUGE mistake on my part. I think no one should be getting me this down and upset. I know I have some issues of my own but I have never been this bad before and I know this job is contributing to it. I have not signed a contract and have no legal ties with them. I've sent the owner of the shop a text message telling her I've left as I just couldn't face talking to her. I'm going to make an appointment to see my GP about my anxiety. I hope I can find a better job soon with people who will treat me right.
