I have a male dwarf lop (note: these are NOT small). He is very affectionate - likes to follow you around and will sit next to you for attention - also likes to wake me up at 3am for attention too
. He will not tolerate cuddles and will struggle violently if you pick him up, but other than that he is very laid back.
Rabbits are not good with young children as they have a nervous dispositon.
However, I have a 3 and a 6 year old who respect Thomas for what he is and don't try to chase or cuddle him (or pull his ears, which is apparently quite common). If your child knows what to expect from a rabbit and is happy to accept that it is not really a cuddly animal, then there shouldn't be a problem.
I prefer rescue rabbits as they are normally adults already and you can already see what their temperment is, plus they would normally have already been neutered and possibly bonded as well.
I'm no expert and these are just my opinions...hope it helps though!
