Hi my mum knows alot about rabbits and I have just asked her. She has had rabbits for years many different ones we also have 2 bunnies at the moment.

She has said Lops are more laid back particular the miniture lops whereas Dutch are more spritual. If you are thinking about getting a rabbits you should get 2 as really they like to have company they talk to each other but its high pitched noise. Dutch are ok if you are prepared for a rabbit to have their own opinion kinda like a person who argues back with you. I hope this helps.

Edited to add lion heads are lovely bucks are easier to train aswell but bucks stand less of a chance of being kept together though.

I have 2 mini lops who are lovely, they never bite or anything. One is male and the other is female, the male is neutured. If you want your male to stay loving then I would seriously get him neutured!

I would definitely get a pair of lops and neuter them both - females can die from uterine cancer and it is common in unneutered females.

I would also consider a rescue because there are 43,000 of them needing homes at the moment. If you get them from a rescue they will be done and have their vaccinations.

Also I would recommend a drop hutch - take a look at my bunny rabbit topic page 2 to see the type of hutch I mean, as it has constant access to a run

A male Lop Eared bunny is going to be the most docile and cuddly, depends what you wanted really, i have a Standard Rex as their fur is much softer and thy are more active, they bounce about and explore more than lops do.

Perosnally rabbits and children isn't a good idea as they think nice cuddly bunny who will sit on your lap. Neither of mine like this and prefer to be outside they aren't cuddly and do not like being picked up. If I was going to get a pet for a child that age I would get a couple of guinea-pigs they like to be in pairs and are lovely they love sitting on you and will talk to you aswell.

I have a male dwarf lop (note: these are NOT small). He is very affectionate - likes to follow you around and will sit next to you for attention - also likes to wake me up at 3am for attention too . He will not tolerate cuddles and will struggle violently if you pick him up, but other than that he is very laid back.

Rabbits are not good with young children as they have a nervous dispositon.

However, I have a 3 and a 6 year old who respect Thomas for what he is and don't try to chase or cuddle him (or pull his ears, which is apparently quite common). If your child knows what to expect from a rabbit and is happy to accept that it is not really a cuddly animal, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I prefer rescue rabbits as they are normally adults already and you can already see what their temperment is, plus they would normally have already been neutered and possibly bonded as well.

I'm no expert and these are just my opinions...hope it helps though!

What about a tamagotchi? I loved mine as a kid My parents wouldn't let me ever have an animal (par a rabbit, 2 guineapigs, couple of fishes and a hamster) but I got too upset aparently when they died so I wasn't allowed anymore (cue freud). This sounds terrible but I got bored of the guineapig (he was my brothers, not mine. but I was bigger than him therefore what was his was mine first lol) but the hamster, rabbit and even the fish kept me amused for hours!
