Default Maybe a new guinea pig now????

Funny how its all working out, I found out last night that if I was going to be adopting Gerald the hamster we would get a phone call, if not we were to assume the owners decided to keep it. Well we never did get that phone call and it was confirmed today that the family did decide to keep the hamster.

Then my husband told me that his boss was looking for a home for this guinea pig. Apparently this person got two female guinea pigs that both turned out to be pregnant so they managed to find homes for all the babies and while in the process of keeping these guinea pigs the person developed a serious allergy to them. So they are left with one female that needs a home and is being kept in a 20 gallon tank!

I have never owned a guinea pig in my life and I don’t know much about them but I am very interested in adopting the poor girl. I think ti would be a neat experience. So I’m doing some research now on line about them. I wonder how this will turn out.

I am on this roller coasted of possible adoptions!! And disappointments.

I just found out that the guinea pig I wanted to adopt already found a home.. Grr first the hamster then the guinea pig..

Now I find out that my husbands boss has a nephew that just got a guinea pig thats apparently younger in age and the kid is afraid of it so the mother is looking for a new home.

So I guess Ill wait and see how that works out, might be better since its young it will be easier to tame. Apparently my husbands boss saw it and said this one has a little cowlick thing on it's head, and that she isn't that crazy about guinea pigs yet found this one overwhelmingly adorable. It was the runt of a litter from the other two pig mothers they were originally looking at homes for..

Im not crossing finger this time, it doenst work, Ill just see what happens. Maybe Im ment to just have Roborovskis

I have decided today after much thinking that I should not adopt a guinea pig. I just didn’t like the idea of the small bin cage as a temporary solution and even though my husband agreed to make a larger cage I just don’t think we have the room and I’m not sure how well it would work out.

Second of all I was allergic to rabbits, and I have hay fever and have allergic reaction to things like hay and alfalfa including timothy hay which pigs always need. So I decided it would be best this way, I’m just going to stick with small rodents.

Maybe once we have a larger house Ill try a pig out

Probably for the best Candace - I have the same reaction to Chinchillas and I had to give my three to my lovely next door neighbour who luckily used to own them when she was younger. Now she is retired they have the run of her house every day and I still get to say hello - even though I itch for hours after

I think guinea-pigs are really best kept where they can be allowed to graze during the day (weather permitting). My four piggies have gone to live at my parent's house for a year whilst I've had to move to a flat, as they are used to living in hutches in an outhouse and being allowed to graze in runs whenever possible. In the flat they'd have to be in indoor cages and I didn't think that would be fair on them as they were used to the good life. Plus my Dad loves them and is trying to keep them when I move to a new house with a garden in July (hmm, good luck Dad!)
