Running Wheel
Which is the best running wheel for your Hammies?
I have done a little research and have found a basic of three different types.
1. Metal Grate Wheel
2. Plastic Wheel
3. Flying Saucer

Re: Running Wheel
And to be honest I'd have preferred multiple choice, I've got no preference between flying saucers and plastic wheels. I voted plastic 'cause we use more plastic wheels than flying saucers but I like both.

Re: Running Wheel
My Syrian has both a plastic wheel and a saucer and uses them equally.

Re: Running Wheel
what is metal grate? is that the ones with holes in the running surface? if so they are not good for your hamsters feet.

Re: Running Wheel
Metal mesh wheels are dangerous
Also my preference depends on the hamster. Darla pees on his wheel so I like having the flying saucer as it's really easy to clean. Annie likes chewing her wheel and doesn't pee in it so I bought her a wooden one.

Re: Running Wheel
i would never have a metal wheel (esp a rung style)
My syrian has both a flying saucer and a plastic Trixie Rodent wheel.
My Robos have a wooden wheel and a plastic silent spinner and will soon be getting a flying saucer. So no preference between plastic and flying saucers as they are both easy to clean, the wooden one my Robos prefer but not so good for cleaning.

Re: Running Wheel
metal wheels are no good for hamsters, it can cause bumble foot or if its the one with spaces then your hamsters leg could get caught when running. i use both flying saucers and plastic wheels and i love them both.

Re: Running Wheel
I favor the Silent Spinners. I've had no problems with them so far. If I should get some new cages I plan to try the Wodent Wheels.
