Unhappy It's not my year...

Hi all

It really isn't my year at all.

As some of you know I work long hours, and I found the dissertation for uni very stressful. I passed the degree, and now I'm losing my job end September.

There is one extra years funding available, but only for 4 posts and there's 9 of us. Ring fenced interviews start this Tuesday.

I have applied for a job elsewhere and I did not get even close to the interview...there were many more applications closer to what they were looking for! Now my OH has stated that before I send in an application form I have to show him first to proof read it. I'm 37 years old...I should be at least ok at doing this by now!

I know this process is not fair, but I have 7 years experience with a variety of youth work interventions, and my training takes one and a half pages!!! And I'm not good enough!

I was confident...but not now. And to make matters worse, there are few youth work jobs available at present because many externally funded programmes are ending.

I've worked 46 hours this week, and I've started brushing up on my interview skills and general prep work.

Now I feel really bad.

Is there something else I can do which I'm not aware of? Sorry for offloading

I think it's nice that your OH wants to help you. Often you'll find that any mistakes in a job application will get you kicked out of the running for the post instantly.

IDK what else to add other that good luck

That sucks alot

I've had a bad week too. Found out the OH's little sister is pregnant with a guy who she has known for 5 months baby. She is 3 months pregnant and he is 9 years older than she is. (she is 18 and completely NOT in the position to be raising a child/ acts about 14)

The OH also got made redunant so things are so very very tight at the moment. Just nothing is going well at the moment. Fingers crossed we win the lottery...

Can I join the pity party too? For the last 2 months I've been having some issues with my digestive system and now I have to under go some not so fun medical procedures and tests. My life has basically been reduced to sitting at home on the couch and going to work where I'm pretty uncomfortable. It's taking a pretty big toll on my mental health as well.

I hope you find a new job soon, stress is not fun. Can you take a job that is not in your field (like a gas station attendant or a clerk in a clothes store) until you find what you do want to do?

Am afraid all you can do is keep looking
Loads of people have wanted to leave where I work for a while and been unable to find jobs, so you're not the only one unfortunately.

I worked in a factory for 10 years before all of this youth work stuff, so going outside my field is fine. I just need to up everything, from job searching to application form writing.

Lucky that my OH wants to help. This is a down to earth moment from the high wave after degree results I suppose.

A possible slight bright side - At least you've got until September to look.
For most graduates its this reality with the added jobcentre nightmare.

Not good, but just trying to show that there is a way it could be worse and there are some people you're well ahead of

I ended up working for a company who do caring stuff entirely on the grounds that they'd hire me. Someone'll hire you too sooner or later

I'm with you here. I have my degree and my job has absolutely nothing to do with it. I am doing the temporary job until I find something better.

There's always a bright side, thank you Sam for reminding me. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in things I cannot see properly.

There is a company who deals with care which are employing. il call the student I supported through level 3 youth work training who works for them to get more info. It's an option...
