No idea what to do now ...
I'm having a problem with my GP. She had been sent a fax saying that my medication (prescribed by the psychiatrist) had to be stopped for a week as I was ill and. Anyway that week is long gone and last week she was faxed 3 times to say that it was ok to restart prescribing it. However, she CLAIMS that she's not received any of those faxes (and I know at least 2 were sent because I watched them being sent!) and so is refusing to prescribe me my medications. They are regular ones that I've had on repeat for ages so technically all she needs to do is restart the repeats. I was given a message last week to say that the surgery HAD received the fax but I needed to make an appointment with the GP as apparently there were a few confusions. So I made the appointment for today, and firstly get told that "4:30 is a little late to be having an appointment" even though the surgery is open until 8pm! So then the GP tells me she has not received the faxes, and she will not prescribe the medications. She couldn't get rid of me quick enough. On top of that there's a note on my medical seams saying that I can only see female doctors (for personal reasons) and she's the only female doctor in the surgery but she says that I can't choose which doctor I want to see as they "don't do personalized services like that" ... So how comes each time anyone makes an appointment the receptionists ask which doctor they'd like to see??! Grrr I'm SO annoyed!

What a mix up!.
Can you get Psychiatrist to type out the fax & hand the letter to her yourself?. So sorry you are going through all of this as without your regular meds you must be feeling worse.
To be honest with her attitude I would see one of the male Dr's. It can not be any worse than the way she is treating you.

It's extremely irresponsible to refuse to prescribe medication for a mental health issue that someone has been on long term. I would be inclined to call your local PCT's PALS team and ask them for support.

Hun i've had the same problem myself in the past psychiatrist was supposed to of faxed the doctor doctor claimed numerous times they didn't get them.
your doctors attitude is shocking, i would complain to the surgery about her, i know it'd awful having to see a male doctor, is there any way a friend or family member could go with u so u feel a little more comfortable?

Re: No idea what to do now ...
I'd probably change to a different doctors surgery...
I considered changing after the GPs were annoying. Then found out that both other ones in the same town are equally bad and had to give up

That's why I suggested PALS.
Refusing to prescribe is one of the fees things GPs, as independent contractors, can be held to account for.

Re: No idea what to do now ...
Hi,
Totally with everyone on this.. Being unwell is traumatic enough without having to fight for medication which just increases your stress.. There should be a community mental health team for your area.. And also as others have said go directly to your psyc and explain the problems to him.
I also think u might be better off with a male dr as they can often be more sympathetic!!
There may be a sound reason they had to stop the medication but any psych medication takes a while to start working.
I would make anther appointment with your dr.. Is it possbile to get the psych to write a letter,,, you pick it up and physically hand it to the dr!! Hassle I know but u should get your meds.
Big hugs and hang in there

Re: No idea what to do now ...
What you need to do hun is try and call the consultant directly who prescribes your medication (if you call the surgery or hospital where you normlly see them and ask for the consultant by name and explain why you are calling, they should give you a number to contact or they will take your details and call you back). Your GP is having a laugh. If you knew that the Faxes were sent to her surgery on a certain day, I don`t know why she would say she didn`t receive them. Or the consultant didn`t send them? If you see a consultant who prescribes you medication and sends this information to your practice, they (your GP) should then write the script out either after seeing you, or for you to collect or your pharmacy to collect. Prescriptions are usually only with-held if they have a reason for doing so, like asking you to come in to make sure you are seen, which you have already done. Or the prescription still needs signed by a GP.
I used to be a medical receptionist in a general practice, so if I was you, I would firstly ring the consultant to find out what`s going on and then get onto your GP surgery for a follow up.
Oh and if you can, see a male GP. I find they are not as `pushy` as the females and are more inclined to listen. My practice has a head female GP who does all the talking and not so much listening. Which is why I always make appointments with the male GP`s! Unless it`s something intimate, I would go with a Male GP. Good luck. x
