Talking -Work Experience starting Monday.. Weeheee!

I've been looking forward to these 2 weeks literally all year
Tomorrow, I start work experience, first week at a local vets, then second week at a language school. It's not my favourite vets, but they're hard to get as they're so popular. Anyway i'm thrilled to be able to go there I'm sure i'll learn a lot, as most of it will be watching, but i'm really hoping not too many people come in to have their pets put down .. that will be the worst part for me.
Then the language school for foreign students the week after, i'm not sure whether it'll be quite busy or whether i'll be doing paperwork.. hmm i'll just have to wait and see.
Still have no idea what i'm supposed to wear to a vets, 'smart casual' is as far as their description goes :/ Still, i'm absolutely buzzing!

Have fun
I did work experience at Bluecross, they just left me to my own devices and I pretty much walked dogs all day (and snuck puppy cuddles when i had spare time) XD

Fingers crossed I can get some more work experience at a vets x

Sounds great and hope you enjoy it.
Pophammy did her work experience for two weeks at our vets. If it helps she wore black jeans type trousers, black lace up shoes and a smartish top. They gave her a lab coat and she had to tie her hair up for safety reasons.
Most of the work was observation but she did a bit of hand feeding animals who were ill and also a LOT of floor and worktop mopping
She enjoyed most of it however it did decide her not to apply for vet medicine which was was good as that is the reason you try these things.

Aw you will love it I done work experience at my local vets and it was brilliant. I got to see all the operations (neutering and seen a dog get a tumour removed the size of your fist! Took a good few hours and lots of blood, but it didn't bother me lol) got to help with x-rays, monitoring cats during spaying and got to go to farms with vets to help them out while they gave loads of cows vaccines. In the whole time I was there 2 dogs had to be put down. One was an elderly dog brought in and the other was a dog belonging to one of the vets that fell into a slurry tank I never witnessed it, nor would I have wanted.
But overall it was a great experience and I loved it and would love to do it again. I hope you enjoy your time

You'll have a great time! We say smart casual at work, & mean 'cover your cleavage & make sure your trousers don't slip down to show your knickers ' You'll also need trousers you can bend down in easily & shoes that aren't too high & stay on your feet well. (i don't work at a vets, but I do work with young children...)

I did two weeks total at vets while in school but they were a year apart and at two different vets.
The second one made me spend most of my time cleaning cages and claimed I wasn't enthusiastic/interested when I skipped lunch one day to watch a poodle get its knee pinned, so I'd love to know what their idea of enthusiastic/interested is lol

At the first I saw a dog get its entire tail removed, another lose an eye (which I did remember when ours lost his a year later), and unfortunately a GSD need to be put to sleep for the same as our GSD had been a few months previously. That one did upset me a bit.

Another time I saw a wild rabbit in to be PTS because of Myxomatosis which was interesting but horrible, the poor thing was so ill and had loads of fleas too and stuff I think that was at the second vets but I'm not sure.

Was really good to do the experience there, fascinating most of the time, but sad sometimes too.

We weren't allowed to do work experience at the vets as none of the vets local to us would allow us there I would have loved to have done it! I opted for 2 weeks at the local dogs kennels instead. However, I only lasted a day there as the people were absolutely horrible!! They were so rude that I ended up crying my eyes out and ringing my mum to come and collect me I couldn't get out of there fast enough! I ended working at a local shop for the lastthe 9 days as that's all I could get at short notice I did enjoy it though

I've just finished two weeks work experience at a local vets I have another two weeks at a different vets in August too.

For this one I just had to wear jeans and a hoody tbh Then if you're watching operations you get given a set of scrubs to change in to. Maybe ring up and ask what's classed as okay as some say no jeans/trainers? (EDIT: Ignore that, just realised you start today!)

I thought it was a great experience and it's surprising how much you can learn through watching. I watched several spays/neuters, lump removal, dentals etc. You'll enjoy it. The only thing I couldn't watch was x-ray, can't remember the reason but I think it's law due to my age?

In the two weeks I was there I only saw one animal PTS, surprisingly I wasn't too upset but the poor cat was in a bad way.
