I don't tend to watch American TV that often mostly because the advert breaks annoy the hell out of me!
I tried to watch Oprah once and there was an advert break every five minutes and after some of the breaks the program would come back on just to say "Here's is whats coming up after the break" and then go back to more adverts! XD I'm just too used to the British advertising system, ad breaks only come on either every 15 minutes, 30 minutes or not at all on some channels!
There are some chavy/'trashy' shows I watch on a Sunday morning if I've woken up early, things like Maury, Toddlers and Tiaras, Teen mum/mom etc mostly because Mr Bobtail will be sat next to me the whole time complaining about the stupidity of the people on there which makes me giggle
He absolutely hates Toddlers and Tiaras (but watches it just so he can complain, he's so typically British :L) he is always saying how unhealthy it is for a child to have that much attention and be allowed to become that spoilt and how the kids don't tend to be fussed about it and its just the mums who are doing it for the attention. There was one mum that really disgusted us mind, she had made her daughter have plastic surgery at 7 because she thought she was ugly and wouldn't let her wear glasses only contact lenses which the poor girl hated and said hurt her
In general I tend to stick to either Comedy Central, BBC3, Dave and Animal Planet when it comes to choosing TV channels
