Scuba diving

Anyone here know how to scuba dive?

Never done it in my life! I tried with the backyard swimming pool vertion lol, where you sort of surface scuba ( if thats what you call it) and I ended up getting watter down my air tube thingy and chocking on water lol

Yeah happens to me usually too I need a longer tube or eyes in the top of my head so I can see how far out it is sticking



It is very popular here just now I was in the Sub Aqua Club at University and now doing my PADI.



I don't actually swim that well either to be honest and am pretty claustrophobic but this helped me a lot.

I scuba dive as much as my bank balance will let me!! You are so lucky living in Scotland as the diving is so much better than what I get here.



I am having a new love for the sport at the moment. Last year I had a really bad experience (nearly died) and I had a massive fear of getting back in the water. But my partner bought me loads of nice new equiptment and we had been back out a couple of times this summer. I am loving it again



Hopefully we are going to spend our holiday diving in Turkey and getting another qualification.

I am hopefully going to have my PADI Rescue Diver by the end of this summer.

I've never tried scuba but it's one of those things I might like to one day.....a good friend of mine is qualified enough to be able to take out unqualified divers so we could go somewhere exotic and he could teach! It sounds a bit scary though.....the idea of being underwater seems like it might feel both claustrophobic and agoraphobic at the same time! I've seen some amazing underwater photos of reefs and wildlife though, that would be worth it.

I am claustrophobic and felt quite wary on my first open water dives - the pool was fine I knew I could just swim to the surface if it all got too much - sitting on the deep end was something I had never done in my life before



iIcannot describe the feeling the first time you put your head under the water and draw in air to your lungs from the regulator which you have clamped between your teeth - it is an amazing rush



Maybe you would love it Emma... I have seen the shark at our local Sealife Centre being examined by a vet in scuba gear before

I am actually CMAS qualified as i trained in Turkey. No training pool for us, first dive in 8metres of water I was terrified before I went in, but once under the water I loved it. I am a good swimmer (trained and competed for many years) so knew I was capable of diving, but I did get that claustraphobic feeling at first.



I think we are going back to Turkey this year to do the next certificate - would equal rescue diver (I think).

My other half is a really good swimmer - trained lifeguard I am not that great I know the basic strokes and can do lengths slowly all day long. Luckily with diving stamina is the most important thing



C.M.A.S. converting to the PADI scheme can enroll as follows:



Advanced Open Water if holding a C.M.A.S. * certificate



Rescue Diver if holding a C.M.A.S. * certificate + a minimum of 9 logged dives within which there must be each of the following:

- 1 night dive

- 1 navigation dive

- 1 deep dive (> 18 meters)



Which isn't much to be honest as I had to do a lot more specialist dives to get my Advanced PADI before I could even start my Rescue Diver.
