Default 1960s Help

Hey so I am doing a History Project on the 1960s, so if you where a teenager or older or just know anything about it really, please can you answer these questions as I don't really know anyone who can remember it all! Thank you

What were you doing in the 1960s? (school, work etc.)

What do you think the best thing about the 1960s was?

And the worst thing?

What music and clothes did you have?

What do you think made the 1960s so different from the 1950s?

What do you think the biggest change was in the 1960s?

Do you think any changes from the 1960s are still important today?

Why is the 1960s such a significant decade?

Thank you so much if you know anything

Well, I was born in 1969 so I don't remember the 60s first hand, but if you fancy being controversial then one of the key developments in the 60s that still has huge ramifications today, in my opinion, is the contraceptive pill being launched in 1961. This made genuine equality for women possible (even if we still have yet to achieve it completely).

Yes Granny said about that so I think I should include more freedom for women. Thank you for reminding me

And some other good things about the 60s that improved equality:
Less censorship (Lady Chatterley trial)
Homosexuality legalised
Abortion legalised (so an end to back street abortion)
Divorce laws relaxed (enabling people to escape abusive relationships)
What's interesting is that a case can be made that some of these things have now gone too far (violent video games, for example) and some debates are very much live now, with debates about gay marriage etc, and a recent attempt to change the law on abortion.

Full marks to the teacher that suggested it - very thought-provoking!

What were you doing in the 1960s? (school, work etc.)
Reading writing and arithmetic, learning the clock times, we would have reading and spelling tests and times tables tests weekly, no calculaters or computers then, we would do collage's from the autumn leaves,at easter we would make paper nests with little easter chicks in with easter egg sweets, at christmas we would decorate the classroom with paper chains and doylie circles that we made ourselves. We would have assemblies every morning where we would sing hymns and have a talk about certain subjects.

What do you think the best thing about the 1960s was?
As a child, the innocence of life growing up then, and the seasons were proper spring summer autumn winter.
And the worst thing?
Bullies!

What music and clothes did you have?
Flowery patterned clothes, very short skirts, socks which you held up with elastic gaiters. Beatles , elvis, lots of different groups, meaningful songs, i love the 50s and 60's music.

What do you think made the 1960s so different from the 1950s?
More freedom.

What do you think the biggest change was in the 1960s?

Remember to quote Philip Larkin: 'Sexual intercourse began in 1963...'

Something bad from the 60s that needs to be knocked on the head: super skinny (Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton etc) as the ideal of female beauty. Even my 6 year old, who is very thin, goes on at length about not wanting to get fat. Grrrrrr. Explosion of budy days morphia.
