Re: I've just been made redundant
Awh sorry to hear your bad news.
That is awful how they can just cut people short like that.
Personally I think Bristol is lovely lol but then again Germany is epic - I wish you all the best of luck in whatever you decide to do!

Sending you lots of sympathy; it is hard when your life just changes overnight. Good luck with whatever you decide, either in Germany or Bristol!

Re: I've just been made redundant
Oh no Alice, so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine moving to another country for a job and then being made redundant less than a year later Don't let people sway your decision, if going back to Bristol feels like the right thing for you to do then you should do it. I'm sure everything will work out in the end, these things are sent to test us I think. Big hugs xxx

Re: I've just been made redundant
Don't you worry! Everything happens for a reason! Maybe there is something better waiting out there for you and like everyone else said, doing what you want is the right thing to do. In the end you have the right to live your life the way you see fit...not your "friends" and family. And btw I have had a lot of "friends" like that and we grew apart cause I wasn't doing what they thought was right.
Don't fret over this, sleep on it and hopefully you shall wake up knowing if you want to stay in Germany or if you want to go back home in Bristol
Lots of hugs xx

Re: I've just been made redundant
That's bad news. These days no one can feel confident that they won't just get the sack for some minor thing...employers are taking advantage of the recession by lowering pay rates and abusing their authority by intimidating people into things like travelling further, relocating, doing extra hours, I know lots of my friends were forced to accept lower pay because they knew their chances of finding another job are minuscule in the current climate. Also there is an abundance of potential employees, so if you refuse, there's always someone else to take your place. People are desperate and will take pretty much any job. And companies are clearly taking advantage of this.
I hope you can find another job soon!
I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to get jobseeker's allowance. Do you have to work a full year before you can receive any in Germany?

Re: I've just been made redundant
I'm sorry to hear that. Just short of one year? I'm going to have to ask my husband who works for the Bundesagentur für Arbeit (federal employment agency), but I think the minimum period a person needs to work in order to receive regular unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld I, abbrev. ALG I) is one full year. Although - if you've made it to a year by the time your contract ends (end of May?) you should be eligible. You're an EU citizen, presumably? Don't consider any of this official advice, because it isn't - just trying to help.
Just 26 days to terminate a contract also sounds fishy. It normally needs to be one full month, unless you're still on probation...
Best of luck to you, whether you stay or go back to Bristol.
