Re: Grand National
Oh god, i remember the thread i made on this last year, it was many pages long, and had some heated debates
I don't agree with the racing, but I'm not going to say anything to people who do enjoy it

Re: Grand National
And yet again 2 beautiful animals die for the sake of ...... hang on a minute..... why was it again? Because in all honesty, i see no gain from the loss of their lives.

Re: Grand National
I`m sad to report that two horses had to be destroyed. Synchonised (this years Welsh Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup winner) and According To Pete, an 11 year old. Weird Al was being treated but they didn`t say why.
Many horses fell (and thankfully got up), but this race is slowly becoming a morbid list of fatalities each year and even though the fences have been modified over the last two years, it still hasn`t prevented these horses` deaths. I for one would like to see an end to the Grand National style fences and instead, the race should be renamed the Aintree Stayers Chase and ran over plain chase fences instead, so that the course still retains it`s big seasonal race, but loses the gross image of the National as it stands.
Racing doesn`t need this every year. It tarnishes the image of what traditional national hunt racing is. All racing is dangerous, but the National is a one off that needs to be dropped. I can`t see it happening, but I hope it does.

Re: Grand National
I am very upset about the losses and can't stand watching it,but it is a massive thing as quite a few people in our family are keen gamblers so its a biggy! I had 5 bets (3 chosen and 2 sweepstakes),I had Always right, hello bud and organisedconfusion also midnight haze and tatanen.Very upset about synchronised,IMHO they shouldn't have let it run,it was clearly not in a state to do it even if the vet said it was

Re: Grand National
I still enjoy looking through the form but I never actually bet on races. I`ve followed racing for a while now so it`s just something I do because I enjoy the sport, but sometimes it can leave you cold when you see a fatality and it`s not a nice feeling even for someone who watches horse racing. Although I don`t support the sport financially by betting, I merely spectate.

Re: Grand National
I agree sammy. The horse got loose before the race but still ran. he jumped Beechers Brook well, but landed by skidding along the ground and at first, I didn`t think he`d injured himself, only to hear at the end of the race he had to be destroyed. I was gutted.
