Wink Keeping Hamsters in Germany

I just joined a German Hamster forum as I live in Germany now and everyone tells me Germany is like a Hamster paradise for accessories but I can't find any suppliers in Hamburg... (eg. I need two 6.5" silent spinners ASAP!!)

I have to admit though, their community is not as friendly as this one! In order to sign up to the forum I had to sift through several pages of dos and don'ts all written in red bold font. It sounded really angry! . I speak German fluently as I have a Germanic Studies BA (Hons) degree from the University if Sheffield so that wasn't the problem. It just didn't make me feel very welcome. Oh well. At least I have you guys! *hugs*

It's a different way of talking over there, over here people usually compliment, compliment compliment and THEN say 'oh..you might want to change this this and this'
On that forum you're more likely to get 'this is wrong, this is wrong' etc.

It's not that they're angry or mean, it's just a different way of approaching the problem. It's nice in that they get their point across without needing pleasantries, but you have to remind yourself that it's just a cultural difference, and they're actually very nice

In germany they tend to use 8" wheels for dwarves, so maybe that's the reason for the lack of silent spinners, I've never seen one in a german set up either.
Wish I could speak german fluently!

That is a good point KP. Though finding any size silent spinner has proved difficult. Do you think a 6.5" would be OK for my girls? kyrilliondaemon suggested that size in my other thread.

The 6.5" silent spinner is what I have for my dwarves and it's fine. An 8" wonderland wheel would also be fine for a dwarf (wouldn't use the wodent wheels for a pair) the silent spinners only come in 4.5,6.5 and 12 inch, stupidly there's no 8". Have you looked online for them? if you can't find them then the wonderland is the only other option I can think of

I am flying back to visit a friend who lives in Alnwick next weekend (my housemate is on Hamster sitting duties for 3 days!) I will order the silent spinners from amazon and have them sent to his address. I can bring them home with me then. I did have a good look online for them but no luck. I will look into the wonderland wheel now though. I had my heart set on the silent spinners though. (You know what it's like when you get an idea in your head about how the cage should look...) hehehe xx

It's funny as I've seen lots of German set ups with SSs. Maybe they order them from Zooplus! I've always assumed there must be loads of wonderful pet shops out there, but clearly not :/
