Working With Animals
Well I just finished my first day on the farm (yes it was cold, and no I don't have the feeling in my fingers). It was fantastic and I can't wait for the summer when I'll get my first proper tan while working with my new best friends.
Anyone else thinking of going into a career with animals (or already in one) and anyone who doens't want to be a vet? I'm so unpredictable with my life, I know I want to work with animals but not be a vet. One minute I want to be a falconry expert, the next, dog trainer. Although I would love to own my own boarding kennels.
Anyway here's a picture of Stan my friend.

Re: Working With Animals
i really want to work with animals but unfortunately for me my family disprove =/ they keep telling me "its not worth the money, they take advantage of you" blah blah blah. i love animals they are like my whole life, i got forced to do ICT at college and got sent to a college who do not do animal care so i doubt i can ever work with animals now.
I wouldn't want to be a vet either, i wouldn't want to put other peoples animals to sleep and i dont do well with needles and stuff :L
it sounds like you had alot of fun on the farm.

Re: Working With Animals
I am heading to Bishop Burton College in September to do an Extended Foundation Degree in Animal Management and Behaviour.
I have had a dream for a long time of either being a Vet Nurse of an Animal Behaviourist (specializing in domestic animals). I've decided to focus on being a Behaviourist...

I just wanted to say that its never too late to follow a dream, i know 40 year olds who change their careers. Follow your head a little, and your heart a lot

Re: Working With Animals
Demecat I considered applying to go there, just didn't want to move that far away from my mum! It looks fantastic. And lawarawr, it's true it's never too late to change your career and follow your dream. It isn't all about money really (although it would be nice to have some!).

Re: Working With Animals
im not bothered about the money side of things tbh aslong as i have enough to get by . but everyone compares me to my sister who has a really good job and pays her loads. i get people saying to me "you should learn from your sister, there's no point in going in to a dead end job with animals".
once i finish college i was thinking about a animal care apprentiship, i mean after all my parents cant do anything about it because i will be 19 when i leave college

Re: Working With Animals
I had the same problem as you, except it was my school. I went to a girls day trust public school and when they found out I was leaving for college they treat me like an outsider. I was throwing it all away apparently. Oh and that I'd never get into Cambridge .

Re: Working With Animals
ah working with animals has always been my dream since i can remember. i always wanted to be a vet, but have decided against it as your grades have to be sooo high for uni, and i know i would never get into it (although i done work experience at a vets and loved it!)
but as i am doing my a-levels now i need to be deciding my future. so if i get accepted at queens uni i want to do zoology (study of animals and their behaviour) or marine biology, but mostly zoology.
if i don't get into uni i want to do an animal behaviour and management course in one of the colleges here. or even be a vet nurse
i look forward to my future anyway

Re: Working With Animals
It's your life, sometimes you just have to take the stick and judgement.and marica (or mariculture as spellchecker prefers) I know a lot of people have had problems with uni grades, I guess I'm lucky in that I got that education from public school and if I had stayed on it would have pushed me closer. But I can't wait another two years taking subjects that don't interest me, I just want to live my life now.
