Re: AS Level Choices
This all makes me feel very old as neither GCSEs nor AS levels existed when I was at school! I wanted to do A levels in English Literature, French and Chemistry but that combination didn't fit in the 'boxes' so I did History instead of Chemistry. I didn't enjoy it much and didn't do particularly well, but I've retained enough that I can usually answer the French Revolution questions on University Challenge! Then I did my degree in English Language and Literature. I agree Linguistics was fascinating but I enjoyed the applied stuff more than phonetics, semantics etc. I did papers on graffiti and tag questions in sociolinguistics and a bridging paper on Chaucer's spelling. I can clearly remember my selection interview: sample questions - Define 'ambiguity', and did I think Shakespeare had a Birmingham accent? Happy days!

Re: AS Level Choices
I did English Lang, English Lit and Law in my first year. English Lang was exceptionally boring for me lol. My first year went really badly though (personal problems) and I ended up failing badly. The head of the English department wouldn't let me re-do either English but I did Law again, plus Sociology and Psychology. I did Theology or something as well for a few weeks but quit after the teacher was unable to tell me what the point of the class was.
Good luck Snickers!

Re: AS Level Choices
I'm doing biology, chemistry, maths and religious studies now (currently doing AS) and I'm struggling quite a bit! I do enjoy biology but there's lots to remember and religious studies is good too, but it depends what course you do, at my school it's actually philosophy and ethics (which is more to do with 'big religious questions' than the actual religions).
It's likely you'll change your mind anyway, I did! Just do what you enjoy doing

Re: AS Level Choices
I did AS English Lit, Chemistry, Biology, History, German and Psychology, and carried on English Lit, German and Bio to A Level (this was 4/5 years ago). I'm glad I did a range of subjects because it gave me more time to decide what I wanted to specialise in later. I eventually did my degree in Linguistics.
Glad I didn't do English Language for AS/A2 though, I don't think I would've enjoyed it based on the occasional Eng Lang units I did in my degree!

Re: AS Level Choices
Hey! I'm a primary school teacher and I did music, psychology, sociology, French and chemistry a levels. However usually for BEd or BA with QTS they interview and it's mostly down to personality at interview as long ad you get your points value. Also now, you must have at least C in eng, maths, sciences at gcse. If I can be any help or you want any advice just pm me! Not that I know everything but I might be able to help! It's a shame your not closer, you'd be more than welcome to come in to get some experience! X

Re: AS Level Choices
I remembered what subject it was that I quit - Philosophy. I was finding the lessons tedious and I wasn't learning a thing - asked the teacher what the point of the subject was (generally, not just in the work sense) and as he couldn't answer my question (tried to avoid it loads of times as well) I quit.
