Year 11 can influence a lot, as your able to learn what subjects you can do best at a high level. (or what subjects you can't bare to do a minute longer )

Next year I'm hoping to go on to do: Biology, ICT, History and business studies.
Reconsidering about whether to do english language instead of business, but we'll see

Well if you do Biology&English Language you can tell me what they are like
ICT is my absolute worst subject though :P

My son did A level english, law and history. Or was it english, law and R.E. I can't remember now as it's about ten years ago since he was at college. I do recall him going on about how interesting the law one was though. Then he went on to Hull uni to do a law degree so it must have been a good subject.

You will probably change your mind a lot before AS like everyone has said. For me it was all different as I didnt start secondary education until I was 16 but I was put back a year to domy GCSEs from the start. I was so overwhelmed by my GCSEs that I didnt have time to consider my AS subjects until sign up day

In the end I took Psychology, Theatrics, Media Studies and Welsh Bacc (a subject that consists of 3 seperate courses) Within the first 6 weeks I had to drop Welsh Bacc because of the preassure - I actaully wanted to drop theatrics because the teacher was a bully but she refused to let me

Another term on and I just had to drop Theatrics, the bully teacher was making me seriously ill under stress because she was pulling me out of my other subjects to take her lesson and keeping me behind at breaks and free periods as well as until 5/6pm for rehearsal and I was failing in the other subjects because of it.

Long story short! Be ready for everything! :L AS can throw a lot of new and stressful stuff at you and it can be really scary out there. Find out what you really want to do (if you want to go to university what subjects the courses require) and when you get to AS dont give up! I lack determination at the moment and its shows

if i had stayed at my high school i had limited subject choices..and all were in boxes.

I chose to move out and go to a 6th form collecge with over 30 subjects..i took english, medieval history. chemistry and archaeology for as level.

My intention was to drop archaeology (my "fun and different" subject) after as level..

i ended up droping chemistry, getting 98% in archaeology and hmm...is that an archaeology degree i may be nearing the end of now?

my point is...even when you pick your subjects and think you know the direction you are going it can change!!

I was always going to study law at cambridge!! then last minute i changed lol do what you enjoy most, you'll get better grades Oh and if you get offered general studies do it, mine got me my scholarship in the end

Do History. Far more useful and interesting. Always looks good on a CV too if you have high grade in it.

With RE, I'd recommend considering taking Philosophy instead. I took a Philosophy AS Level and it had a fair bit in it about religion, but it also taught me to discuss different view points, which is quite useful. It really made my brain work and think hard

What else did I do? Graphics, Fine Art, Photography, Psychology, Fashion & Textiles.. all lots of fun and what I wanted to work in eventually, although things change a lot over the years I took so many classes I had to teach myself one, and due to personal problems, only finished a few, but I had a good chunk of each one .

I've done Biology at a higher level now, given I'm doing a degree in it, I guess. It's fantastic. I did the equivalent of an A Level in 8 months for my foundation year, and I found it intensive, but pretty straightforward. If you might want to head down the science route in the future, I'd consider Chemistry (another one I did in my foundation year). It's amazingly interesting, very difficult (life would be boring if it was easy ), and gives you a good grounding in using maths for practical purposes too. I hated it in my F-year, but I miss it now. It gives you a great grounding to build on with Biological principals.

Ultimately, if you do stuff that you enjoy, you will do well, but if you have an idea what you want to do in the future and can tailor it that way, all the better . Don't take a choice because it's easy - took me a long time to realise it, but there is no satisfaction in doing well in something if you haven't tried
