Hi guys Today in the car my dad asked me what I want to do for a career when Im older. I thouht I knew, I really did. But when he asked me, I found myself racking my brain for some kind of asnwer. I honestly dont know. My dad said its fine I dont know, Im young. Have LOTS of time to think. Afterall, Im only 13. But the thing is, I feel like I was 7 only yesterday.
I wanted to be a vet, but honestly, not anymore. Im awful at coping when animals are hurt or have passed. It just breaks me. I get really depressed. I try and stay stroung but I break down into tears, even If I dont know the animal. I want to help, but simply cant.
I always think about being a teacher. But theres some things I cant stand about them, not all but the ones I grew up with seem to have given me a great impression on certain teachers. Just the fact. A "teacher". (No offense to any teachers out there! I so respect my elders ) Thats probraly becasue im 13, and they just seem to get on my nerves. Wow, sorry if I sound stuck-up here, I dont mean it! I guess being a teacher, (what I thought would be an option) is not to thrilling to me.
Can you guys when me out? im lost.

In all honesty, I can't help you. I'm 21 and I still don't know! Give it time, you are very young to be considering careers enjoy being young, I wish I could go back to being so carefree.
There is a reason you can wait until halfway through your second year at a university to declare your major in the U.S. That reason is that people are so indecisive, even AFTER they are 18 and already working on higher education. It's normal to grow up and experience lots of things before you finally settle on something and take it seriously. Eventually it becomes necessary, but until that's the case (after high school), I wouldn't stress over it.
With high confidence, I can say that whatever you decide to do now will not be what you will end up doing when you finish high school So just do the things you like now and take opportunities to learn what interests you, and something will catch you enough to want to do it seriously.
Also, it's a good idea to do an internship / summer job / volunteer work for something you think you want to do. It will give you an idea of what that field / job are really like, which is often very disillusioning. If it's not--then it's [one of the] job for you!!

I'd try not to worry about it too much - when I was 13 I thought I wanted to be a psychologist, then marketing/PR, then when I was 18 somehow fell into IT and started my career in it as I ended up enjoying it!
Whilst you're in school you'll find out what areas you do enjoy, then you can explore them more when you do your GCSE's
I really don't think it matters at this point. I know that is not helpful. I didn't know what I wanted to be when II went to college so I chose my subjects based on what I liked. I didn't know what I wanted to be when I was older and heading to university so I picked a subject that I enjoyed and I had skill at. Then on a whim at college I done some work experience and enjoyed it and so that is the career path I went down.
Unless you are set on a job like vet that takes a very specific level of education and a selected course before you qualify there are also many many routes to go down. The degree I have would open the door to hundreds if not thousands of career choices because it was the skills I learnt that are transferable and not the knowledge I was given on a topic.
Sometimes I feel when people pick a career when they are young that they work and work and work towards that then does not pull through they become so disillusioned they never follow a professional career path.
In terms of teaching I can only make a comment on what it is like in my own country. Many many people see it as a fall back job but it takes 4 years to qualify for. It is a very rewarding job but you have to be committed to very very long hours. While I do get a lot of holiday I generally work a 55 hour week at minimum to achieve what I have to achieve. Like many other jobs it has nothing to do with how much stuff you know but is all about the skills that you have. Some people believe anyone can teach but unless you have the skills and disciplines needed you are going to quit early on. I trained with 30 other people of my class of 30 5 dropped out on the course. 12 more have since quit teaching and are retraining for another profession because it is very tough and underpaid for what is expected.
hehehe, i'm almost 25 and i have a career...... and all i do is wish i had a different one half of the time, even though i do really love what i do.
Don't worry about it too much, just keep an eye out for things that interest you, think about what you enjoy. Sometimes people don't realise the type of jobs available so have a think about that. The rest will come in time.
No one can really suggest a career for you. The best advice I can personally give you is to find what you enjoy or better yet love doing and focus on that. Life is to short to hate going in to work everyday. If you have time, I would suggest watching the video of Steve Jobs 2005 Stanford commencement Address. It is worth it.
I agree with Gemima - doesn't really matter at this point. Do what you enjoy and see where it takes you.
I always knew what I wanted to do from a very young age (police officer) but that plan was ruined at 18 because of problems with my legs. Five years later and I haven't a clue what I'm going to do!
I still can't decide what I want to do (nearly 16)
I believe the right career will come to you when its the right time.
I'd reccommend volunteering somewhere, be it charity shop, rescue centre etc. It can give you countless skills and may help towards giving you a few ideas in the direction you wish to take (looks great on your CV too ) x

It will come to you in time. Honestly I'm 24 and still have no idea. I would love to run a no kill animal shelter, but that usually isn't a paying job. I have my BA in Communication Studies with a minor in Psychology, but I currently work at an upscale gas station/convenient store.
