Help... Baby Squirrels!! Do you know any Good Forums??

I'm stuck with FOUR baby Red Squirrels...if you know of any good places where I can contact people with information on what to do with them please let me know!!

OK settled down now!! Man I didn’t know what to do with the little guys.. Anyway I called a person who rehabilitates wild animals and found out that squirrels usually have two nests incase one gets destroyed or something. She also said there is a chance the mother might take them back but if she doesn’t in a couple hours that she will take the babies and rehabilitate them.

Apparently they are illegal to keep in the state of Connecticut which sucks because I was hoping to rehabilitate them myself

but I think this is a better way.

So I took the cats in, and put the babies out in a box with their nesting material, and a warm bottle, because I guess that mother wont take them back of they are cold. So if I don’t see them missing then my husband and I will be driving them to this ladies house.

Probably for the best, soon I'll me dealing with baby gerbils anyway.

Well my friend did get back to me, saying that if they're VERY young time can be critical. She said to get them to a rehaber. Which you've already found which is great if you need to send them to her, and also suggested these three sites -

Most states do not allow people to rehab wld animals unless you have a license.

Thanks Coco I really appreciate it, seems throughout my life I've always been finding injured or stray animals, I found this wild life rehabilitater card in a local pet store and took it just incase, turns out I did need it lol.

The mother squirrel knows where her babies are, I think she’s timid and unsure about the box I placed her, she’s run down to it a few times but has yet to take a baby away.

I'm sure she will do in time. I remember my friend having to move squirells out of her attic. She placed a second box in a tree and slowely she moved each of her babies to it. She LOVES squirells, has all sorts - she lives in WA state. She has flying squirells too. Very cool.

I'm sure they'll be fine, just give them some time. The mom squirells normaly know what to do with the babies

Well the mother didn't take them and it's getting colder out, so this women is coming to meet us to take the babies, I feel bad for the mom but at lest the babies have a chance to live.

No I didn’t take any photos but I asked if she would take pictures for me of them as they grew and she said that she would.

She also said they would be released back here because I guess they can't just live anywhere like Gray Squirrels and must have specialized habitats, so that’s cool

Actually after I posted to you last I was going to say that she'll probably bring them back to your place as they'll be used to that area. Neat! Glad she is going to do that.

I went to a rehab class once, just an introductory thing, to see if I'd be interested or not. It's not that I wasn't interested, but wanted to see how much was involved. Yes, I'd love to do something like that but there was a LOT involved, lots of commitment, which unfortunately in my case I would just not have been able to manage.

However, the lady that was talking about it was very knowledgable on everything and at the end of the morning class (it had been about 2 hrs) she said "Here's an example of the commitment envolved" .... and she undid the first button of her blouse (LOL NO, this is not off topic or bad in any way!) and reached in towards her bra strap - pulled out TWO baby squirrels!!! Couldn't believe it! All that time and they were keeping warm strapped to her undergarments in a little sac LOL

Well, the class was wondering what on earth she was doing when she reached in there - then wondered "what on earth is she going to pull out of there"! But she was taking care of them by taking them with her and keeping them warm! Unbelievable. They were SO cute!
