Default Good bye Henry

Our dear friend Henry passed away at home in his beloved coconut.

There has been an air of sadness in our house for a few days now because we all felt that Henry was near the end of his life. Time spent with him was precious and Henry himself showed an affection he wasn't exactly known for. He moved out of his house about a week ago and decided to live in his outhouse. Henry became so weak but still wobbled around and ate a little porridge. Last night he did one last small circuit of his habitat with his eyes closed and wobbling all over the place. He was so weak that he didn't manage to get back into his coconut but still strong enough not to let me pick him up because he was determined to get back into his coconut so i lifted his backend up and hoisted him in. He curled up, went to sleep and never woke up again.

Henry was our first hamster. Every time a new hamster moved in to stay or stop over i told him not to worry because he will always be No 1 hamster. Henry was special and we will miss him so much.

Thank you all for your kind words.
We have buried Henry, in his coconut with a monkey nut of course, in the garden next to Percy. Losing a hamster leaves such a big void in our lives.
I'm cleaning his cage and things right now because i still expect his sniffing pink nose to appear at the door of his house.......

So sorry to hear about your loss of Henry. I loved following his story with you. It sounds as though he said goodbye to you in his own way. What a great little character Henry was.

I'm sorry to hear about Henry. But smiling at him refusing help to get in his coconut. He was definitely a character.
