I'm so very sorry for your loss. You gave him your best and he led a charmed life. No hammy could have been more loved and cherished.
Play well at the bridge Nugget free from pain and still loved x

Oh it appears I'm crying at work. Nugget had a great life from what I read of his thread. All we can do is be the best ham parents possible and you did just that.

Play well, little friend.

Thank you Souffle and Detri. I am sorry it made you cry at work, but know the feeling. Nugget was a very determined, independent hamster, right to the end but he was getting weak.

I am so sorry to hear about little nugget. I have tears running down my face reading the posts. Whilst it was the right thing to do for nugget it is just heartbreaking for you. Run free at the bridge nugget x

I don't like the Memorials section and rarely read them, because they make me cry. But somehow yours was the only one that didn't make me cry, since I knew you had made the best decision for Nugget's happiness and he lived the best possible life.

(That's not to say the others weren't well-cared for, but usually they die in pain and suffering/ unknown causes and that's just very sad to me, so seeing such threads made me super super sad, even though I know they were unavoidable. I lost one to unknown causes myself. I think it just makes me feel much better that if it was painless for the hamster, because I know all of them have to go someday, sadly).

Do take solace in the fact that you were lovely to Nugget and he was really happy, that's all that matters. This is a relief for him, and he would want you to be happy too!

Thank you 10 minutes. Yes it means a lot when people eemind me that he had a happy loving home with us, so thank you. It’s important to try and remember the good times. His medical condition was out of our hands and not curable and he is at peace now. I hate the euthanasia idea and such a conscious decision but it is freedom from unnecessary suffering when there is inadequate pain relief available.

Your words really helped me 10 minutes - thank you.

He was trapped in his tiny ill body and needed to be set free - You gave him freedom and relief. It was the only choice, it's just like how you see a hamster trapped under a rock and you knew that by lifting it, he would be able to run free, safe from pain and fear. You appreciated every day you had with Nugget and that was the best gift you could give him.

I'm not sure if you're the type to get another hamster soon, but maybe you could (of course, only if you wanted to). Not to replace Nugget, but to honour him. To pass on the gift and love that you have, to another of his kind, so that another hamster will be able to benefit from living out his legacy, in his memory.

Nugget didn't suffer at all because you gave him the gift of a lifetime's love and you freed him when he was trapped. He would have wanted to see you happy.

Hugs.

My heart sank and tears welled when I read your thread title. I’m so so deeply sad to hear that Nugget is no longer with us. Serendipity - you gave that little one an amazing life and made a choice that was in the best interest of his health. My thoughts go out to you and I’m thinking of you during this sad time.
