Re: How to cope with loss of a much loved hamster
I just lost my beloved Chinese hamster, Benny. She was such a joy. I enjoyed playing with her every night. I didn’t know if I was crazy feeling so sad at her loss. It helps to see that others have a special connection to their hamsters as well. She was my first. I am so heartbroken I don’t know if I could do this again.
Trev, let me know if it is getting any better. Thanks.

Re: How to cope with loss of a much loved hamster
Hi Luvshamsters - I'm sorry to hear about you losing Benny. You are not crazy at all to feel so sad. For the first few days after losing Bobbi, I too was heartbroken and found it difficult to focus on anything. I had not realised how important she was to me. Not everyone understands how important pets can be in our lives and I had a few unhelpful comments of 'just go and buy another one', and even 'man up'. The support I have received from folks on here has been great and has helped me a lot.
It does get better with time. I still miss her, but I remember the funny little things she used to do and it makes me smile. I think that although they are only with us for a short time, the love we give our pets enriches both of our lives, and even though losing her was painful, I do not regret having her for a single second. You gave Benny such a happy life and you should cherish that.
Take care
Trev

Re: How to cope with loss of a much loved hamster
Thank you Trev for your kind words. I still haven’t been able to bring myself to clean out her bin. I suppose in time I will be able to do that. Remembering the cute things she did and watching videos of her has been my current favorite pastime. I am thankful I video taped her and took so many pictures. They do serve as a great memory.
Coming to this website and reading others experiences is enormously helpful. Thank you again for your input Trev. I wish you the best in your healing over the loss of your beloved Bobbi. She sounded wonderful and was lucky to have you!
Take care.
