My precious, handsome, cheeky little man has gone to the rainbow bridge.
He had been slowing down a bit lately, the heatwave really seemed to take it out of him & he never quite got back to his old self but was still enjoying life, no more marathons but still little sprints in his wheel, he never lost his love of wheedling more treats out of mum, making fitch mountains & as much mess on the floor as he could manage.
He was more than a friend he was my little soul mate, our bond was so very special & he has been there for me through so much, I find it vey hard to remember a time when he wasn’t there really & have no idea how I am going to get used to that now, he will always be here in my heart forever but already it seems so strange not to see him sitting on his little ledge by the door looking for me & waiting to be spoilt with treats & cuddles.
Such a special little guy I cannot do him or the pain of his loss justice with words.

Yesterday he had been fine in the morning, enjoying his porridge & digging in his seed box throwing food everywhere but in the evening I found him just lying outside his house, he can’t have been there long as I’d only just been to look for him, I picked him up & he was making awful sort of clicking squeaks as he struggled to breathe his sides heaving with the effort, I just held him & after a little while his breathing became a bit easier & the noises stopped so I just held him & talked to him constantly telling him how much he was loved, thanking him for everything & telling him he didn’t have to fight to stay.
After a couple of hours he just very suddenly looked so peaceful & I knew in that moment he was gone.
I’m totally devastated by his loss, he meant so much to me & always will, such a big part of my life & the emptiness he has left is hard to bear but I know in a way he will always be here with me & he will never be forgotten.

He will be buried in the memorial garden with the other hams, I have a lovely simple wooden box for him & will give him some of his favourite things to be with him & when I’m ready I’ll find him a fitting memorial stone.

Run free & play well at the bridge my beautiful boy, your big sister Whisper & the rest of the hamily will be there to welcome you.

I've taken his nest from his house, put in his favourite sunflower seeds, a monkey nut of course & a flower for my precious boy, his final nesting place.

Oh Cypher I am so sorry - little Zeki was so special. Such a hard loss. But I'm glad his final moments were peaceful and at home with you. Such a beautiful box and poem and a very fitting tribute to such a special little boy. He and his antics will be very much missed. As you say he'll always be with you but hard not to have him there any more to play with xxx

Cypher I'm so sorry, Zeki was such a beautiful boy. It's so hard losing a ham that youve had such a special bond with over the years. I'm glad that you were able to be with him in his final moments and give him some comfort, he would've felt that love and I know it would've helped him to go peacefully having you with him.
Zeki's little box and poem is lovely, a fitting tribute for such a special boy.

Oh Cypher, I'm so sad to hear about your beautiful super boy Zeki, I feel your loss and heartbreak. Pleased he went peacefully in your loving arms and listening to your loving words of comfort. Zeki was a little charmer oozing beauty and cheekiness and will be forever remembered. I love his little nesting box to be buried in and the tears flowed reading your tribute. Love your fave pics. I am so sorry for your loss Cypher. It must be really difficult losing the ham that you had such a special bond with. But the love that connected you both remains. The tribute poem you've written to him is so beautiful. Sending you hugs.

Thank you so much for all your kind words everyone, it does really mean a lot.

Thankfully the rain stopped & the sun has come out so I have just had my final goodbyes & laid Zeki to rest, he lies between Whisper & Zephyr with some of the self heal I planted there in the spring still flowering beside them so I feel he is safe on his journey now.
I've ordered him a memorial stone to match Whisper's, it seemed appropriate now they're together again & I know I'll feel better when that comes & I can put the finishing touches to the final resting place he deserves.

I’m so sorry for your loss cypher. Zeki was such a handsome boy and he had the best life in the world with you! It must be so hard to loss your soul mate ham. The pictures you had of him are so very sweet and they bring out his personality. They are just the most special of all creatures and always know how to make you laugh and smile. The nest box is so very sweet and thoughtful. I’m sure he would have loved it. The poem brought me in tears cypher. His final resting place sounds very peaceful. Zeki, you were the most good looking ham I’ve seen. Your coloring was stunning and you and your mums bond was so very strong and sweet. We’re all going to miss you handsome man. Goodnight Zeki.
