Coco- The little heart box sounds like a lovely way to keep pets' ashes.
I do find the smell of lavender to be very soothing too; such a calming and peaceful resting place for Jeeves

I brought Custard in to my vet practice yesterday so they could start arranging his cremation and they were very sympathetic and understanding. I also managed to create and order a lovely keepsake box for him which has a ceramic tile lid with his photo on it as well as a small velvet drawstring bag for his ashes to go in.

I have to say that the keepsake box you have created Hammy 992 is delightful. Very personal for the lovely Custard and a very dignified final resting place for your heart ham.
It always feels comforting when you have arranged something like that.
I still have the memory stones/ hearts I had carved for my boys beside my chair. Somehow they have not yet made their way out of doors to decorate their plant pots.

Thanks so much for the lovely comment about Custard's keepsake box. It was definitely a comfort to find something special to remember him by. The last 2 days I looked at so many different ones and nothing seemed to feel quite right. Every time I thought I'd made a decision I'd end up changing my mind and be more confused and overwhelmed than before.

I needed to pop into Sainsburys before work today to grab a couple of things and on the way to the registers I happened to walk through the baby food aisle which got the tears flowing a bit.
My housemate used to joke about how long I would spend looking at all the different jars trying to find new flavours for Custard to try (which he had daily to help him maintain his weight and for his medications); he really used to love them and even an hour or so before he went to the bridge he was still determined to eat from the spoon I offered him. He was such a strong willed little ham through and through.

I understand about wanting to keep the memory stones of your boys near your chair, they really are beautifully made and I'm sure it's nice to be able to look at them and remember all the good times you had with them.

Your keepsake box is lovely Hammy992, something you will always be able to treasure along with the memories.

I can imagine how you felt passing by the baby food, those little things can be really hard but also a reminder of just how much you did for your lovely Custard.

Thank you Cypher, Thin Lizzy and Sasha.
Its so lovely how everyone on HC support one another when they experience the loss of a precious hammy.
I've found that some people just don't understand why it's so upsetting to lose a small pet or why I would choose to keep his ashes and make a memory box for him, and hearing those reactions when you're sad is just awful. But I'm so glad that you all like his memory box and I know I've made my decision for his resting place with love and that's all that matters

Hammy992,
I know a couple of people like that who just don't understand why I get so upset. With HC, there's a bond, you know that we'll share the good and bad times and have support whenever needed. Big hugs xx

Heartbreaking, rest well Custard. Saw the other thread and you & Custard both tried so hard for him. The keepsake box looks really nice and is a lovely way to remember your little boy by. Hope you’re okay.
