Default Rip tilly

Hello

We have had Tilly since December 2015 and she has been spoilt, she's never been ill or sick and was very active

I'm pregnant so have been tired more, so tilly hasn't been out every night recently but she seemed happy sleeping and eating, I always saw her when I gave her food, she loved salrd,

She never acted ill or anything are normally and was active,

The other day I made a note to take her for a check up as she hasn't had one this year, last night I gave her her food and she took it and went back to bed, it was late around 11pm and I had a 12 hour shift today so I went to bed as I was tired,
I checked her at 3am when I woke but can't she was sleeping in her bed so i don't wake her,

I get home from work today and she is laying flat and cold, breathing shallow so me and my partner wrap her in a blanket and cuddle her on our laps to warm her up
She starts to wake up and warm up and becomes active but wobbly, she walked on the sofa with us cuddling her and giving her warm water, we thought she was just cold or old age, but we noticed scabs near her mouth, they were not there when she came out 2 days before or maybe I didn't see them?
She is breathing funny, wobbly when walking and has scab/cuts in her lip, her nose is bleeding a little Then she laid down and rolled her eyes and died,
She had blood coming from her nose and pus from her bum,
Sorry to be so descriptive, just want to know if any one knows what it was? Or why?
Can't believe she is dead now

Lydia, I'm so very sorry to hear about Tilly, such a shock for you to witness it. They can be fine one day and fall ill the next. It does sound like it was sudden and quick and there was nothing you could've done. Big Hugs xx

I'm sorry for your loss, that must be hard to witness.

If she had problems in her bum maybe it was pyometra, but as far as I know hamsters with pyo don't bleed by his nose. Maybe someone with more knowledge can help you.

Anyway, don't beat up yourself, you did what you could, now she's in a better place. Rest in peace little one

I'm so sorry for your loss, it is hard when they go suddenly & unexpectedly but sometimes we just can't know what the cause is, she was a very good age so try not to think to much about things you might have done differently, there may not have been anything you could have done or any obvious signs.
She's at peace now & it doesn't sound as though she went through any prolonged suffering.
Just try to focus on what a long & happy life she had, cherish the memories.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was a decent age for a hamster and it sounds as if her system was overwhelmed by some internal infection possibly. I wouldn't worry over the dischage from the nose and back end during her final hours as this is common as the body systems close down. At this point they are normally pretty much unconcious so she would not have been in pain. It's a strange thing though I have found that often they get the gift of a twilight time when they know you are there and I always feel that is their time to say bye bye and don't worry. I think she got that.
Play well at the bridge Tilly - you were much loved x

Thank you everyone, we had a little funeral for her today, me and my partner
Buried her under a small tree/ bush in an enclosed area of the park with a letter from us, I wanted to bury her in a nice wooden box but read they don't decompose well, so we buried her wrapped in some of her tissues from her bed wrapped in some nice tissue paper, hope she will be ok

She was loved and spoilt, she was famous with friends and work colleagues, they always asked after her,
I work in a nursing home and bought her in a couple of times all the residents loved her, she was always well behaved when handled by others except she pooped in a work colleagues hand once 😂 She was spoilt by me, had a massive cage and lots of toys,
We took her to a nursery for the day once aswell to visit the little children, she loved her ball and free play

I'm soo glad we were with her when she passed away, she knew our voices and smells so knew we were comforting her,

Rip Tilly, little one
Love you soo much and will miss you
See you one day again ❤️

Lydia1981, I am so extremely sorry to hear of your loss. Tilly seemed like such a sweet hammy and brought joy to so many in her life. I know that it must have been terribly upsetting and tragic to see her in such a state at the end, but I am sure that she felt all of your love and comfort through it all. She had such a long and pampered life, and you did all that you could for her. Sometimes, sadly it is just their time. Please try to only remember her the way she was and focus on all of the wonderful memories that you shared. She loved you and would want you to be happy and at peace. Her burial in the park sounds quite lovely. It will bring her joy to know that she will be surrounded by the laughter and joy of children and adults alike. What a wonderful resting place for one so beloved and cherished. Take care, Lydia1981 and your partner. Rest in peace, sweet Tilly. May you run free, happy, and healthy over the Rainbow Bridge. You are gone but never forgotten.
