We will always remember you, Hammie

A couple of days ago we had to say a tearful goodbye to our beloved Hammie. Hammie was a Syrian and lived to be 2 1/2 years old. He lived in a 75 gallon tank. We tried to give him the best life we could. Friends joked that he won the hamster lottery.

When I would think about his passing, which we all know is inevitable one day, I always thought I would just find him in his burrow, permanently at rest. But Hammie got very ill, he was hunched over and could barely walk, would not eat but did drink a little. He seemed like he was disoriented also. He went downhill quickly- the day prior he was fine. We called the vet and they saw him the next day, when they euthanized him. It was so painful to see him suffer for that last day of his life when he lived such a great life up until that point.

We miss you dearly, Hammie, and you will forever be in our hearts.

I'm so sorry for your loss mickapoo, it's always sad when they can't just go into their forever sleep quietly with no suffering but Hammie had a good long life with you & you did your best & took care not to prolong any sufferings so try to focus on the good times & cherish the happy memories.
