Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
I'm so sorry Chesca. I honestly don't think it was your fault at all. Hope you're ok. Hugs xx

Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
Toffee was a beautiful piggy and you done him proud chesca. It`s always a blow to lose a very much loved companion, but you have the memories of wonderful times. Cherish them and keep Toffee in your heart, as I`m sure you will. Be proud that you were a great mum to Toffee. x

Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
Thank you so much everyone for your kind words. It really has helped me and means so much to me. I am slowly healing but it is still painful for me .
I am going to make a photobook for Toffee with all my favourite photos and memories.
My only other concern right now is Oreo. They have never spent a night apart since before I even got them from Pets At Home (before I knew about small animal rescues and breeders) until now. He just seems so sad, like he is mourning for Toffee, too. I have tried to distract him by buying lots of new toys and treats but I don't know how well it's working. Does anyone have any suggestions to help Oreo?
Unfortunately, getting a companion for him at this point is unlikely. Oreo is over 5 1/2 years old and I don't want to keep going through this same process. Neither of my parents think it's a good idea either, unless they think that Oreo is really suffering. Also I would just feel like I'm replacing Toffee.

Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
I don't know a lot about guinea pigs. But could you give him a small teddy to snuggle up to maybe?

Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
If you have any rescues near by (rescue locator in the guinea pig forum btw) they may be able to let you have a piggie on long term foster to keep Oreo company for the rest of his life.

Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
A foster piggy or two might be your best option for companionship. However, some form of companionship is definitely important with the nature of guinea pigs.
It might feel like you're replacing Toffee, but really what you'd be doing is potentially giving other piggies a chance at a better life even if it isn't for long as well as providing for one of Oreo's needs.
If you're worried about Oreo passing and then another piggy being alone, this is why I'd say try and go for multiple piggies instead of just one as this prevents the risk of one pig passing and then the other being left alone.

Re: Good Bye Toffee, for now
Chesca, if friends for him aren't an option, would your mom consider letting him live inside? That way he'd at least have human companionship some of the time? I dunno what else to suggest really!
