Night night Frieda
Frieda was a Syrian who won my heart. She came into my life at the age of 6 Months, Born on May 5 2014. A beautifully marked What the owner thought was Black Dominant Spot. She was very calm and social when I went to meet her but when she was in unfamiliar territory she became a screamer. She always enjoyed being fed Sunflower seeds and soon learned to tell time and would wait at her bin window at 7 PM for her treats. Not once did she fail to screech and holler at me even though I quickly learned it was all a big show.
She was intended to bring in the Dominant Spot pattern gene, but Frieda would have no part in the mating game. She would happily stand when I stroked her back but the second she saw another Hamster it was all out war. So she became my companion and my friend.
When she got Rodent mites the Vet sent me home with a spray which had to be applied to her coat until saturated. She was always a good girl but while wet I discovered why she was so chatty. Two very small spots of Yellow showed she was actually a Black Tort Dominant Spot.
She lived life to the fullest never slowing down running on her 12 inch saucer as she refused to use a Wodent Wheel Senior. She got that saucer given to her from her special friend Erin. She was intended to spend her senior years with Erin but some how she never got to her house.
At 11:00 PM on Sunday night August 28 2016 Frieda went to her wheel and ran slowly but steadily and went to her nest and closed her eyes for the last time in this realm. It was so peaceful, so natural. The house is much quieter these nights, but I know she is happily running about at the bridge.
She developed a tumor in her abdomen almost 6 weeks ago which the Vet was not wanting to remove due to her age, and I felt it would not be best for her to suffer through the recovery pain and stress so it was decided if she got worse she would be helped to the bridge. However she never showed any signs of pain and never skipped a meal nor refused a treat and every night at around 8PM you could find her walking at her own pace on her saucer right up to the day she left this earth.
Rest well my beautiful girl you lived your life to the fullest and I am sure you will live on to the fullest at the bridge.
This is one of my favorite pictures of Frieda.

Re: Night night Frieda
I am sorry to hear that Nancy she sounds like she lived a full life and one where she was much loved. It's awful when our animals meet sad ends like this but sounds like she didn't suffer and went peacefully. It's hard the ache they leave in our heart as we become attached to them.

Re: Night night Frieda
What a lovely memorial to your beautiful feisty girl, Nancy. She certainly held a central place in your affections and deservedly so.
Goodnight Freida, enjoy life at the bridge and may you still get treats at the usual time.
