My little girl, my bundle of joy

It is with a heavy heart that i have to announce the passing of my beautiful babe.

Last night I awoke her to find her having difficulty breathing, shaking and with her eyes half closed. She had lots of cuddles and kisses and she appeared to perk up as I placed her on the floor to see if she could walk. She managed a few steps and cleaned herself but it wasn't long before I realised she was very, very sick. Distraught we gave our babe lots of kisses, and I placed her back in her cage, moved her food right next to her bed, told her I loved her and hoped that she'd be okay. This morning we found her in her cage having not made the night. I'm so thankful I woke her so I could say goodbye... But I feel guilty for not staying up with her all night.

She was a wonderful 2 years 6months and only two nights ago she was running around as well as she could in her old age. I think, I hope, she was a happy hamster.

Maddy was so friendly from the moment my partner chose her. She never once in her life bit us and she never showed any animosity towards us. She was as loving towards us as I hope we were to her. She kissed and was kissed, she loved and she was loved. She was a delight and our world was made better for her being in it.

I'm so sorry, I know you've had your concerns about her for some time now but she lived a long life to the full & I'm sure she enjoyed every moment of it, so glad you had the chance to say your goodbyes, don't feel guilty about not staying with her for the night, she knew how much you cared & loved her & she probably just went quietly into her forever sleep.

She was a very special girl & a wonderful friend for you I know you will miss her so much but the memories will live on & she'll be forever in your heart.

I'm so sorry to hear this new's. It's such an awful experience but take comfort in the fact you were there to say your good byes and she lived a long life.

Thank you everyone. Your kind words go some way to ease my grieving. Everything is a bit bleak at the moment but our memories and experiences are of some comfort. xx

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this Mrs Livingston. Maddy really was such a special ham and was an absolute trooper until the very end. She couldn't have had a better life with you and you cared for her so, so well and stayed with her until her time came.
