Default Sleep well sweet Lady Jocardi.

When my daughter Lily told us she wanted a hamster I had reservations. Id never had or handled a hamster, and admit to knowing nothing about them. Lily did her homework about what they ate, needed etc....and saved her money to buy it herself...so in August 2014 we went to the local pet shop to look at the hams. Most ofthe babies were sleeping, but one was running around and came to the glass and put her feet up checking us out. Lily decided there and then that was the ham for her. The lady popped her in a little carry box and my hubby picked us up in his van for the few minutes journey home. halfway home, Lily was in a panic that hammy had scratched and bitten her way through the box! I had to run in the house and take the cage out to the van to get her home safely! This indicated to us imediately this little ham was gonna be a character!! Although she was to be Lily's ham....I admit I fell in love with her in an instant. We established she was a girl and Lily named her Jocardi.....( thats a story in itself!) We had bought a small second hand cage but after joining Hamster Central we knew it wasnt going to do long term, although it served us well those first few weeks whilst we got to know each other. Then we bought her a hamster mansion!!!
We had lots of fun, lots of love and lots of laughter with and because of Jocci. Everyone loved her. She was very sweet natured and loved interacting with all the family.
We became aware she was not herself towards the end of last year. With a little research I thought she possibly had a neurological condition....and the vet agreed that was likely the case. We knew she wouldnt get better, but wanted to make the most of our time with her. The week after Xmas was horrid we had expected her to leave us.....but then she rallied....more active, eating well....doing all things hammy.
this last weekend she seemed a little tired again, but I dont think I was expecting to find her how I did on Sunday.
Im so glad I got to hold her in those last few minutes...tell her how much I loved her and how much happiness she gave us.
She was the most delightful girl....we really couldnt have had a more perfect pet for us. I can not believe the joy she brought and the pain she leaves.
Jocci....I hope we did right by you little angel. We loved you the best we could and I know you loved us back. You will be forever in our hearts sweet little hammy Lady.
Rest well, free of pain. I hope one day I shall see you again......xxx

A lovely tribute - and I know what you mean. We got Charlie for little boy and I was surprised at the huge wave of love I felt as we got to know him and look after him. Your Jocardi had a lovely home and family with you and clearly wanted to stay with you as long as she could, until it was her time. Hugs.

I have only just gone through this lovely little hams thread the other day and I was so glad she was rallying.

I am so sad for you that she has gone though am glad that you loved and had each other and that even though she was ill at the end she got to live as she wanted surrounded by love and the occasional snuggle.

I'm so sorry to hear your wonderful Lady Jocardi has gone. I've loved seeing her pics & hearing about her, as others have done. Your tribute was lovely, it brought tears to my eyes. Those of us who have been lucky enough to share our lives with these wonderful bundles of fluffy love feel your pain & sadness. I'm glad you got to be with her before she passed over to the rainbow bridge, we were lucky & got to hold & say goodbye to our Russian dwarf Digger before he went, last month. I'm not sure if I'm being silly but I do wonder whether they hold on to see you, I got that feeling with Digger and with others in the past.
I don't think you need to worry about whether you did right by her, your moving tribute and loving words show that you & Lily looked after her wonderfully! Thank you both for taking care of her so well, doing your research etc. & giving her such a good life.
I know it's a hard time, keep smiling and remember all the great memories. I'm sure our beautiful hammies are waiting for us up there in hammy heaven.
Sorry if this is way too heavy & hasn't helped you to feel better at all! That wasn't my intention. All my thoughts to you & Lily at this time. xx

ps. I love the pic you chose of her, she looks the definition of naughty, curious, friendly & gorgeous!

Thank you Coldpaws....not to heavy at all. It's comforting so many friends here understand each others sorrow.
I 100% believe Jocci waited to be with one of us to go. As I said....she was in my arms minutes... had I not gone to the cage when I did she would have passed alone....I just hope I didn't leave her hanging on too long. XXX
