Seren makes her greatest escape
I've been holding off on posting this because it would mean facing the reality that she's really gone this time but my precious, inquisitive, bold explorer, lover of potato chips and snuggles, Seren, has passed away.
She was such a wonderful ham, always looking for attention, and I feel bad that I brought her into my world that was so soon to be turned upside-down by other people. Specifically, 2 nasty rental situations that were almost certainly scams on some level. I know I couldn't give her the attention I wanted to with the near constant packing and moving and trying to ensure the pets' safety and mine thanks to creepy landlords. But I did the best I could. It's too bad that the last place she lived turned out to be somewhat sane and it's the place she had the least amount of time to enjoy.
Seren loved romping in the grass and the last time I got her out for a walk it was a beautiful night with a full moon. I had already seen the signs of old age in her; thinning hair and wrinkled skin; but those signs were only visible on close inspection. To the untrained eye she still seemed a tireless young hamster with her ears at full sail and ready for anything! I put her down in the grass and her beautiful white coat glistened like silver in the moonlight. Of course that would have made her a target for any night-flying predators so I kept close beside her. She didn't go far though because she tired more easily than she used to and she ran back to sit on my foot where it was warm and safe.
She still loved new things and chirped delightedly at every new discovery, which included treats which I would leave in her cage for her to find when she awoke. Her forays from the nest became shorter and shorter but I usually knew when she was up by the excited snorts and tiny chirps when she found whatever new thing I'd left, whether it was an exotic (cheese & bacon!) flavour of dog biscuit or a nice bit of greenery brought in fresh from the garden. Potato chips were her own find and definitely not something I would have given her on purpose but her fame as an escape artist was not baseless and whenever she did manage to get out she would usually be found with a stash of potato chips if they hadn't been properly locked away out of reach.
She was a character and she will be missed x

Re: Seren makes her greatest escape
I'm so sorry BrainGirl that you lost your little adventurer
It seems like she had a great life though, full of fun and new experiences (excluding awful rentals) and what more could a ham really want except for good food and places to sniff? I'm sorry I didn't get to know her better, she sounds like she was the very best of hams RIP Seren

Re: Seren makes her greatest escape
I'm so sorry BrainGirl, Seren was clearly a very special ham & friend, it sounds as though she had a wonderful life leaving you with many wonderful memories but I know this time is hard & you will be missing her very much.
Run free & play well at the bridge Seren.
