Sad day at ST's
[SPECIAL][/SPECIAL]It is a sad day here at ST's. Kebes has slipped away while asleep in his nest. It looks like possible renal failure as his belly was coated with very very dark almost orange yellow urine stain. He was on watch as the other night he was just not acting his normal self at all. Normally he would race up to the bars and place his nose through waiting for attention, but instead he came over, looked at me and went back to his crinkle paper nest he had built.
He refused the food treat and just wanted to sleep. Early early this morning he was in a coma like state and had a wet tail. I gave him a last gentle cuddle as he slept with eyes closed and heavy and slow breathing. I replaced him into his nest and he is gone.
I don't know if he may have been ill before coming but that would explain his aggression very well. I'm glad I could at least show him love and let him enjoy a cage which must have seemed to him like a Mansion. And he did allow his true personality to shine before getting sicker allowing me to pick him up with no aggression at all and actually becoming a very wonderful chatty old chap. I do believe he was and old hamster as his ears were shiny and bald, and his facial fur was really thinning both things which come with old age.
Rest well my little Big Lamb you ran a great race and you crossed the finish line a winner.

So sorry to read this Nancy. You did a wonderful and kind thing rescuing Kebes. At the end of his life he knew only peace and happiness. Rest in Peace little man. You were much loved in the end and that makes a difference.

Re: Sad day at ST's
That's really sad Nancy. He'd only just gotten to you. I think it was just fate that he found you in time to have a little bit of real loving and good care. When you were wondering whether or not to take him in, I told you to think hard about it. I am so very glad your decision was to go ahead and bring him home. Some hammy angel lead you to him. Play well at the Bridge little Kebes. Peace little one.
