Goodbye Attila
Attila passed tonight at the age of 2 years and 7 months, after a long battle with a tumour. He was always such a hardy and active hamster in life, and this attitude stayed with him up until his final days. At times I almost forgot he had a tumour as he completely ignored it and carried on as usual, never sitting still for a second.
However, tonight at around 9pm I found him collapsed outside his hide, not able to stand. I knew that his time was ending, so I wrapped him up in a bundle and stayed with him until his last breaths at 2:20 am.
Attila was not an easy hamster to live with in some ways: he did not sit still to be handled (getting pictures of him was near impossible), he used to loudly chew his bottle through the night, and he regularly used to escape under the most mysterious circumstances. However, he was a terribly kind soul in many other ways and we became very close; I thought the absolute world of him.
I love him so very much and will miss him tremendously. I can only hope that he was not in pain in his last moments. Even when he was struggling to move he was doing his best to interact with me and it broke my heart. Rest in peace Attila, you big hairy cloud. You have certainly earned it.

Re: Goodbye Attila
I'm so sorry for your loss Varx, Attila was such a lovely guy & he did live to a really good age with all the love & care you gave him, he couldn't have wished for more from you at the end of his life, you did everything you could & made his passing as peaceful & comfortable as it could be.
I know you will miss him very much.
Run free & play well at the bridge Attila.

Re: Goodbye Attila
So sorry for your loss Varx. I'm glad that you were able to be with Attila and you were able to make him comfortable.
I know that you did everything you could to make his life easier once the tumour had developed. You loved him very much and he'll be missed but you will have so many wonderful memories of your time together.
Thinking of you.
Play well at the bridge, Attila.

Re: Goodbye Attila
Varx such sad news about Attila, what a fantastic age and life he had with you. The care and love you gave him was unconditional. You were with him to the end. Thank you for sharing Attila's tumour and care with us, you did a superb job on ensuring he was kept comfortable and gave him loads of special treats & foods. The love and care was felt by all of us.
Sending you big hugging cuddles xx
RIP Attila sweet dreams xx

Re: Goodbye Attila
Thank you all for your kind words. I have planted a few flowers above his grave so when they bloom I will think of him and know he is living on through that.

Re: Goodbye Attila
Hi Varx, so sorry to hear about little Atilla. What a good age! You clearly took good care of him. I think it's really special that you were able to be with him at the end, it must've been really hard for you but you stuck by him letting him know he was loved. That takes a lot of courage and selflessness.
I love your idea of keeping his memory alive with the flowers, what a beautiful thought. Atilla is at peace now, play happily sweet thing!
