It has taken me a while to write this, I have found this guy passing very difficult! Although he was with me a very short time, he had a huge impact on me! He used to be a ham that would scream at you if you went near the cage, I worked with him every day and the progress he made amazed me.
I only have nice pictures of him that were a few months old, unfortunately as he deteriorated, he became scruffy and through tests near the end he was shaven in a very noticeable place.
He enjoyed my flapjacks I made him and loved to climb, he started begging to come out for a run about. He was given some hammocks not long ago as he was climbing so much and I worried about him getting hurt - he loved them and was in them most of the time I saw him!
He died from Chronic Kidney Disease which I don't think I will ever accept, he had a UTI before we knew he had a kidney issue so was on medication which cured it, we dont think that this would of had a huge impact though. Unfortunately I saw him deteriorate quickly so we rushed him to see a vet, it didn't look good for this little man. He had some shocking readings in his urine and I was given some additional supplements to give him. He was getting worse so I took him back to the vet and we decided it was best for him to have his forever sleep. We took a blood sample from him to confirm what the issue was to ensure it was nothing contagious and I had suspicions it was CKD by the symptoms. The result came back and confirmed the CKD, it was heartbreaking to see him so poorly after he had made so much progress with me! He would climb onto my hands and take treats but I would rarely get the odd nip, it made me cry the first time he did that - I never thought we would get that far so soon.
Here are a few photos for you to enjoy of my little man. Today I finally bought a plant for him to go in my front garden which will be going in later once the sun goes down a bit.
Love you Duncan! xxxxxx
