My special girl finally said goodbye today. She had been coping with some health problems over the last few months, but suddenly went downhill over the weekend.
Olive was my first hamster as an adult and started all the madness.
Since she arrived 18 months ago I’ve acquired a Chinese, a winter white, a hybrid and another Syrian. I knew she was coming home with me before I saw her little spectacles; she was just a ball of trembling sawdust when the lady said “Oh that one just looks like a mole”.
Oh does she now? Well I happen to like moles. Of course, I thought she was gorgeous when she finally emerged.
Ol was an insane whirlwind of a ham. Always on the go, always up to no good. She was known for climbing, frequently disappearing behind radiators and developing lightening fast stair-climbing skills.
But with her craziness she was incredibly gentle. I was learning again when I got Olive and I think she tamed me
. Even in her first few days, she was very forgiving and would just touch her teeth to my skin as a warning. Her antics and her friendliness converted lots of people who’d be bitten as children and saw hams as vicious and pointless pets.
Olive was my uni pet an helped create another home from home. It's going to be strange without her.
Bye bye silly, squishy girl x
