My beautiful little Marmalade had to be pts on Friday 8 February. Following so soon after Inara's tragic accident I was really upset and only now feel able to write a bit about her.
Marmalade was a Pompom, daughter of Tammy's Bianca and Poms' (in)famous The Cloud. Born in 2011, she and her sister Peaches - both adorable husky robos - originally went to live with a young girl who, a year on, was unable to care for them properly, and so they returned to Poms' loving care.
Here they are on their first birthday (thank you to Poms for the lovely photo):

They had had some difficult experiences and were nervous, jumpy and loathed change, and after Poms (to my great amazement and gratitude) agreed that they could come to live with me, the move was postponed several times when they squabbled and had to be temporarily separated. However, they were always miserable apart and much happier when they were reunited. Eventually, in May 2012, they settled enough to move to Essex with me. Here is Marmalade not long after their arrival:

Timid as they were, the girls were still tamer than most robos and loved to play on the bed. Marmalade could be a bit of a daredevil. Here she is looking most aggrieved at being recaptured just as she had leapt off the bed:

After one early hiccup when they spent a couple of nights apart, they settled down beautifully and never needed to be separated again. They always slept snuggled up together and were my dream pair:

Inevitably, though, as they approached 2 years old the girls began to look like little old ladies, first losing the fur on their legs and tummies (making telling them apart even more difficult, as I had previously been able to tell by looking at their undersides, Peaches having pulled out tufts of Marmalade's fur in historic fights
), and more recently on their backs. Here is the last ever photo I took of Marmalade, with her sister as always, in my 7 year old daughter's hands:

On the last day of her life she seemed to have some sort of seizure while rolling in her sandbath and was unable to get back on to her feet. She seemed to rally and I dithered about taking her to the vet while she seemed peaceful. However, she then started squeaking and I knew it was time to seek help for her. The vet nurses thought she was the cutest thing they'd ever seen, but the vet said her heartbeat was muffled and fluid in her abdomen was putting pressure on her lungs so she couldn't breathe, even with oxygen. The kindest thing was to help her to the Bridge.
I want to say a very grateful thank you to the lovely Poms for trusting me with her two beautiful girls. They were an absolute joy to me and my family and I miss Marmalade very much. Peaches will be very spoilt in her twilight until she goes to join her sister again.
RIP Lady Marmalade. Love you xxx
