RAINBOW BRIDGE (Author unknown)

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Default Happy life ever after...

I'm sure my Whiskey, Fudge, Smudge and (I believe his name was George?) are spinning away on their never ending wheels to their hearts content! Love them always and they'll always be remembered

One hamster who is always going to stick in my mind is my old Syrian Mitzi, who I'm sure I've mentioned before! She was the first hamster I had after leaving home, she had the biggest personality of any hamster I've ever had. She was incredibly people-oriented and nothing phased her - including coming with me to lectures one day (it wasn't planned - we'd been to the vets to drop of one of my pigs for castration, and I bought Mitzi so my friend could double check her teeth for me as they were worrying me. We ran late and I didn't have time to go home.....so she sat in her travel cage in the lecture theatre and learnt biochemistry with me! and then rode the bus home). I also have fond memories of her escaping out of her ball, and then strutting round the flat like she owned the place (she never needed catching, she'd just walk back to us when her name was called). I also remember introducing her to the guinea-pigs outside in the summer - she was much more interested in the dandelion leaves.

She sadly died at the age of 20 months last autumn from a thyroid carcinoma. At first we thought the lump was a haematoma and would heal itself, but when it suddenly started to grow we decided to operate (it was either that or put her to sleep), sadly she died under the anaesthetic. My pathology professor helped my diagnose what her lump had been, and it would probably have killer her even if she had survived the operation sadly.

As I'm moving around a lot at the moment I didn't want to leave Mitzi in this garden here, so she's buried under one of my favourite trees in the local woods. Whenever we go for a walk there we can visit

Anyway - Mitz was one of a kind.

Emma that is wonderfull. Certainly something I would do if I knew I was moving. Mitzi sounded like a fabulous hamster! You reminded me of my Whiskey when I took him into my classes at school (as mentioned on another post)... the lessons he learnt! lol.

It is amazing how their characters can be so warm

That story is such a happy ending and brought a tear to my eye. I will miss mine when they are gone but will definately enjoy them while they are here and love them. Good for you finding that story.

Default In memory of Peppermint

In memory of my darling Peppermint. I just feel able to put this poem on I wrote for my Minty, the best hamster in the world! I will always love you Minty! 26/08/02 - 18/03/05

My cinnamon boy

My cinnamon dream

Oh where has he gone?

He's nowhere to be seen

He's not in his ball

And he's not in his cage

Oh why he was taken

It fills me with rage

When he was a baby

His pink twitching nose

His plump ginger body

His delicate toes

But why did he leave me?

And where did he go?

My cute ginger piebald

I wish I did know

Though now he has left me

And he's up above

Even though he's gone

Him I'll always love!

Minty, in his hammy pouch
