Default Missing Macy

It's been one week since we lost our precious little Macy, and it still doesn't feel real. Her cage is still in place as well as the plastic tub in our den where she enjoyed her evening exercise. Macy was our first hammie, and we will always cherish our time with her and the special joys she brought to our home. We love and miss you, Macy girl. Forever, Mommy

A few weeks ago I adopted two adorable dwarf Winter Whites from a rescue centre. Frank and Justin came to me after Justin had been found tied up in a bin bag and Frank was handed in as an unwanted pet. Over the past few weeks they were showing different but lovely personalities: Justin was trusting and really keen to come out and Frank was quieter and shy around me. They decided to have a bit of a fight and had to be separated but they were living happily in their own cages all this week.

Then last night, this happened:

Little Justin passed away

I'm devastated. I was putting food in for all the hammies last night and after a while I noticed that Justin hadn't come out but I thought at first he was just having a good sleep as he'd been in his wheel until some silly time in the morning. I opened the door to call him and he usually comes running but nothing.... so I took the lid off his little house and gave the bedding a gentle shake and still nothing. I was getting really worried by this time so I felt around in the bedding and I felt his body and it was cold

I have no idea what happened... there are no marks on him, no lumps, his limbs were OK and no blood round the mouth or anything. I don't know if it was delayed shock from the fight but he was fine all week and has been eating, playing, coming out for cuddles etc.

He obviously died in his sleep as he was all curled up in his bed and I just hope it was painless for him. He had such a short life bless him and I'd formed a good relationship with him already, he was always wanting to come out, and I can't believe he's been taken away from me so soon.

He was always very small even for his age, and there's no telling where he came from originally so there could have been genetic issues which never made themselves clear to me. I am just so glad he spent his final weeks with me, and that he died knowing he was loved so much.

RIP Justin, my gorgeous little guy

I'm sure, after the horrors of his early life, he was so happy to be with you as well and that he knew how much you cared about him.

Thank you xx

It's amazing how trusting he was, after his cruel treatment. He was always wanting to be picked up and had a lovely, bouncy little personality. I really am going to miss him.

It doesn't matter how long you have a pet, whether it's 3 weeks or 20 years; if you take an animal into your home he or she becomes part of your family and it's devastating when you lose them.

I'm going to bury him in the garden here: I'm only renting so I won't be here forever but this was the only proper home he knew so it seems right.

So sorry about your loss. His last days were spent loved and happy and he will be telling all his friends at the bridge what a wonderful time he had. He may have been older than you knew and his time had come to rest. Hugs to you

*hugs*

Thank you so much. It is hard to tell how old animals are sometimes, when you don't know their history. He was loved so, so much and I had friends and family who'd never met the boys following their story and they're upset too. I am SO glad I took some pics of him last week so I have something to remember him by.

I havn't had Snowy and Smokey long but already Snowy has gone to a better place, he was only 8 months old
I noticed that he hadn't come out of his little house in a while but just thought that it was because of the sudden cold weather or because he was just tired; he also wan't eating as much as usual.
I went to check on him last night and he was dead I don't know how he died but he looked peaceful and painless.

R.I.P little Snowy, you will never be forgotten and will always be loved. xx

Oh Hana, I'm really sorry - it's so obvious in your posts how much your hammies mean to you - I'm sure Snowy knew how lucky he was to have had you caring for him. RIP little Snowy
