Default Winter White breeders in Leicester ?

Hi, Are there any winter white breeders in Leicester. I would like to buy a WW male but cant find any local. I dont want to buy from a shop as I bought my Screech from a shop and if the local shops use the same breeder, and I decide to breed Screech, I dont want one that is related. I asked on another hamster site but have never got a reply. I get more replies on this site to posts / threads than on the other site, so I dont go on it.

Thanks in advance. Ian

In my opinion you should not breed a pet shop hamster. His genetics are probably not very good. I wouldn't recommend doing it.

I sent the OP a PM about it. Screech is probably a hybrid.

Thanks. I got a pm from Colby and I didnt know I would not be able to breed Screech. I might just look for a pair of unrelated pure breeds to mate just the once. I have bred birds but never hamsters. I would like the experience but would not do it for profit.

A few years ago, I bred zebra Finches and last year, I sold my last canary after breeding Fife canaries. The last canary I sold was special as I hand reared it from it being a week old and it was thrown out of the nest twice by its parents. It was heart breaking letting him go after he had been through a lot, but at the time, I did not have the time for birds as I was moving house, being in hospital and other things happening all at once. If I bred a pair of hamsters, (which would not be for a long time yet) I would either sell them very cheap or give them away to friends who would like to have a pet. I would not take them to RSPCA or pet shop. My son was thinking of having one but doesnt know when. I may never get any more and just have Screech.

That's good. It would be unfair for the hamsters to just leave them at the pet shop. Is Screesh your first hamster?

SHe isnt my first hamster. My first was a Syrian, back in 1990. Then in 2007/8 I had a pair of hamsters given me with a cage and I bought a very large hamster cage for them. When I told my friend I had bought a cage, she said I had a spare cage and offered me a nother pair of sisters. Althogether, I ended up with nine young hamsters, but I never knew what breed they were as then, I didnt know there were different breeds. I though a hamster was a hamster. Sadly, they started to fall ill and a couple died. It cost me a lot to take them to a vet who done dna tests and told me the person who bred them were interbreeding them and they had hireditary illnesses. They all died which put me off having rodent pets for some time. Since then, I have had tropical and marine fish, budgies (not breeding), zebra finches and canaries (both types successfully bred). Now I just have Screech and she is great and a laugh at times. I let a friend have her sister as they were fighting and I seperated them.

Sorry to hear that

My first hamster was a syrian called rolly. I have had 5 hamsters so far including my 2 robos i have at the moment. I am planning on breeding robos in the far future (3-4yrs). I used to breed betta fish and red cherry shrimp but then decided to move onto hamsters and budgies. I own 2 rescue budgies

Back in 1996, I had a cockatiel which was given to me without a cage. I had to rush to the pet shop and buy a cage suitable. I had him for 3 months and when my wife came home from hospital with our last son, he started to get conjunctivius symptoms. It turned out he was allergic to the cockatiels feather 'dust' . I had to give the bird and everything away as soon as we found out. It was a few years later when I started to breed zebra finches. The oddest pet I had, which my wife nor kids ever heard of, was an Axolotl. It was cute but very boring. I sold it to an axolotl fan and even delivered it 45 miles away for free. I got photos of all her axy's and I knew my one was being looked after. My mate has a pond and offered me some newts if I dug a pond in my back garden. The wife said no, she does not and has neveer liked to have a pond. So I just encourage wild birds into my garden and fill the feeders every two dayd as there are loads of sparrows, goldfinches, bluetits, greattits, coaltits and longtail tits as well as a family of robins and blackbirds that come to feed every day.
