Welcome Hannah! What gerbil forum did you come from? was it The Mongolian Gerbil Website? Im a member on that forum. I use to breed gerbils. I did it when I was in elementary school and then recently ..maybe last year I bred my Burmese female and Siamese male. It was lots of fun and I just love baby gerbils. But finding them homes was difficult...mainly because I feel nobody other then myself can give them the best home lol
The first round of pups my female had was eight! More then I was expecting! I love gerbs, but I think id like to try my hand at breeding dwarf hamsters some day. I still currently own 6 gerbils though.
Freckles is so adorable! Shes so cute, and you took such cute pics of her I had to show my hubby! Bah silly pet stores though! They will call a hamster anything to get some extra money out of it. I have yet to see a sign for a dalmatian hamster, but I wouldnï¿œt be surprised if I did! Teddy bear hams, fancy hams, black bear hams, panda hams..
Soufflᅵ is right.. more actual floor space is better then a level cage. Especially for a Syrian ham. I find that most store bought cages for hamsters are just to small for the Syrian type. Thatᅵs just my personal feelings. I had a silent spinner for my Syrian but it eventually broke under his weight and constant usage. You might want to look into a larger solid wheel, I found the SS wasnt wide enough and was tricky to run on for my poor ham. Anyway.. if you have any questions feel free to ask..
Oh, and look into bin cages if you havenï¿œt already, they make great cages and are very affordable.
Lovly Avatar btw
