Unhappy Black/red toe on teddy bear syrian hamster

Hi everyone, today I noticed that one of my hamsters toes was a black red color and it was really hard to get a good look at it. Can anyone let me know if they have see this before? I’m thinking maybe either a broken nail, bruised toe, or something is blocking circulation? I attached a photo

That looks very sore and I would recommend you get a vet have a look at it sooner rather than later. It could be a number of things and your ham may also need some pain relief or other medication x

Yes, i'd also advise to take him to a vet asap because he may need pain relief.

I'd also check his cage to see if there's anywhere he could have caught his toe in. Silent spinner wheels have gaps where this can happen for example.

This could also be a typical hamster ball injury but i hope that you don't subject him to the dangers and stress of a hamster ball anyway.

Thanks for the replies, she has a vet appointment tomorrow I’m just really concerned about it becoming infected and I wish I knew what was wrong! She tends to climb on top of everything in her cage and jump from object to object so I’m thinking she might of landed on it (its her back foot) causing bruising and maybe damage to her nail.

If its not an open wound its not likely to become infected.

Is she able to walk ok and how is she in herself?
