Question help? and hi-

okay so im new to hamster central but not that new to the hamster community. i have a winter white hamster named munchkin and he's been acting odd lately.

he has a bin cage that gives him 480 square inches of floor space.

recently he's been climbing on the mesh in the lid? like he's never done this until just yesterday. he's a healthy hamster too. none of my hamsters have ever done this. when i take the lid off im pretty sure he is able to get out, there's a wooden hideout for him in the corner that he stands on to try to climb the plastic of the cage. i can move it but it would be sad since that's where he has his burrow and keeps his food.

Maybe he's a bit bored? Maybe you could change his set up and see if this distracts him? Maybe you can invest in hamster hammock to avoid him falling and hurting himself? Finally, could you show us your set up so we can suggest some modifications.

Your cage is also on the small side, if ever so slightly.... Maybe it is time for an upgrade...

Keep us posted and show us your cage

Hi and welcome to HC!

Do you give him enough out of cage time? I also suspect that he may be bored and wants to get out.

Saying that, i have a dwarf who lives in a Hamster Heaven and gets lots of out of cage free roaming time but she still monkey bars at speed across her cage and back. I think she simply enjoys doing it.

Does his bin cage have a meshed front window? I always add a window and a vent to bin cages because i find that hamsters like to be able to look out.
