Talking Water bottle

Hi. Maybe someone can help me here with some ideas? My syrian when using his water bottle is pushing the bottles neck all the way into his cheeks, trying to chew the base of the neck. I have changed the water bottles and I can see bubbles rising as he uses the bottle indicating that the water is coming out and I have checked it and it works fine. I have also tried using a water bowl but he just buried it in the bedding. Help?

This isn't good for them as they can damage the pouches (the pouches should actually be dry inside) and they can also take in way to much water and end up peeing loads which can strain the kidneys and upset the body chemistry.
It is a habit. Try moving the bottle higher or lower so it's less easy to chew or wedge it so only the tip of the spout is inside the cage. You can also get bottles you can hand up swinging loose so they can drink but it's not easy to grip to chew them.
We use bowls for bottle chewers. You just need to position them so they can't be filled with bedding and change them once or twice a day.. Try sitting inside a larger dish if you like.

If your hamster lives in a barred cage you can get bowls that attach to the bars. You attach the holder to the bars and the bowl lifts in and out. Another option is a bird water container that hooks into the bars. Both keep the substrate out and can't get knocked over.
