Default Meet Chloe

Hello everyone, I'm a very newbie hamster owner, 6 days ago i bought a winter hamster and decided to call her Chloe, she's a very brave girl 💪 right now she lives in a 60cm x 30cm Aquarium, I feed her a pet shop bought seed mix that contains seafood, I replace the water in her bottle every morning, and I used sand for bedding before, but now i change the bedding to wood(?)

Chloe is a very curious hamster, she really loves exploring my house, she always climb my hand everytime i put it inside her aquarium, but today Chloe is a bit different, she scratches and groom much more than usual and one of her eyes seem difficult to open

Please anyone who read my post, how can i treat Chloe and any suggestion on how to make her happier? I really love her and i cant afford to lose her😭

Hi and welcome to HC!

Maybe Chloe has an allergic reaction but i don't know for sure of course.
Are the wood chips scented? What kind of wood are they?

I'd remove the woodchips and sand then put in plenty of paperbased substrate like Kaytee clean and cozy or Carefresh. Then add a sand bath because most dwarfs like to roll around in sand to clean their coats. Make sure that it is placed safely so a dwarf can't burrow underneath it and topple it over. I place mine on a platform.
For additional nesting material i'd put plenty of plain white unscented toilet paper torn into strips near her house.

You can bathe the eye gently with a cotton pad dipped in warm, previously boiled water and check if there is any redness or soreness of her skin where she has been scratching. I wouldn't buy any over the counter treatments because you don't know what is causing it. Better to get her checked out by a vet if needed.
