Smile Meet Trico

Hello! I'm new here, and wanted to introduce my new Syrian. His name is originally Barbas (from the breeder I bought him from), but I call him Trico!
I've had him for about a week, and he was born in September last year. He's still learning to trust me, but he's very brave! So far he has eaten from my hand, and he smells my hand whenever I put it near him. He doesn't walk into it yet, and he doesn't want to be picked up. But I'm spending time with him in his playpen every night when he wakes up (I carry him in a flower pot which he walks into himself), so I hope he'll learn to trust me eventually

When he first moved in, he put his nest behind the wheel, and as a result the nest would fall apart every time he ran on the wheel. His breeder told me I could try to move it to his house, so I did - and so far he has not moved it back

I'll update more eventually!

Hello and welcome to HC!

Looking forward to hear more about Trico. Hamster can take a while to learn to trust human but it sounds like he's on his way.

My original photo was apparently too large, so I'll try again. Here is Trico in his enclosure outside of his cage

Hello! I forgot that my photo didn't work - let me try again!
Here's a picture of my Trico, and one of his cage. The cage is homemade, and he seems to enjoy it.
I added a gif too, where he's testing his flying skills

I've now had Trico for a little over a month. He's still a bit nervous, but I'm working on it

He's currently sleeping until around 01:00, and when I try to wake up around 6 or 7, to be with him, he's usually gone back to sleep again.
So I'm still working out excactly how to do our routine.

What a beautiful hamster! Trico is absolutely gorgeous.

Love his habitat too. It's lovely and looks like a lot of thought went into it.

Hamsters aren't always asleep when they're in their houses and burrows. You could try rustling the substrate near his nest or leave a tempting treat near it without disturbing him. Keep talking to him at the same time so he associates your voice with the treat. I'd stick to the same time like 22.00 or something like that. Hamsters are naturally nosy.
