Default very new to hamstering

hello all,

I am looking to get a hamster for my fiancé and myself in the next month or two, as available from the breeder we contacted in his area. We currently have a dog, and a budgie who's still new-ish to the family. He has experience with hamsters from childhood, but as I have no experience with hamsters, I'm looking everything up to hopefully "refresh" what he does know

I thought I knew how to keep a budgie healthy and happy, and only upon doing an immense (and still constantly ongoing) amount of research, have I realized I had a lot of misconceptions about how to care for them. I imagine hamsters, being small and relatively inexpensive, are going to bring me through a similar process of having to dismiss 90% of the simplistic information I keep reading about them!
