Red face Hello!

Hi, my name is Haley! I owned a dwarf hamster 2 years ago and when he died I decided to wait a while before I got another one. Well this past May, I adopted a Syrian hamster, who I named Amber. I fell in love quickly and in August I adopted 2 more female Syrians, Cinnamon and Sugar, who both live up to their names. This past October, I thought I was done adopting but I fell in love with a male Syrian hamster by the name of Graham. The month of October consisted of Cinnamon outsmarting me often and found ways to get out of her enclosure. Well... I found out somehow she managed to get out and she ended up pregnant. November 11th she had babies. I have no idea how to handle them, I just know I can't touch them and there's quite a few of them. I joined this forum to get advice from other hamster lovers.

Hello and welcome

You certainly sound like you have your hands full!

How did Cinnamon manage to get out of her cage and into the males cage? Could she have been pregnant from where you got her? If so you should contact them to help as you will need lots of spare cages for each of the babies.

You should leave them alone for the first 14 days yes

Question Re: Hello!

Cinnamon is apparently really smart and resourceful. I have seen her climb her water bottle and push up the latch. I've had her a few months now and the internet say they are only pregnant about 3 weeks or so. The day she had babies was a few weeks after she escaped her cage. I don't know what to do with all of them. These were definitely not planned

She would have to work out how to get into the males cage though, if the cages can be escaped so easily perhaps use a bulldog clip or put them in different rooms?

You could contact the pet store and see if they are interested in the babies, the hamster wiki and breeding section has lots of advice. You will need cages for each of them and to split the males from the females otherwise you could find yourself with lots of hamsters very quickly!

First of all, my advice would be to make sure that your hamster's habitats are escape proof.
Hamsters are creative little animals but they can only escape if we give them the opportunity to.
Now its your responsibility to ensure that every little hamster baby in your care goes to a suitable forever home once old enough which is not an easy task.
