Quite the opposite in looks and nature of "glamour boy" Rory, our other Syrian.

Wow - from that picture of Rodney climbing up Clarissa's cage, he definitely looks like one slim, tall hamster indeed!

Re: Rodney
Lately, Rodney has taken to staring at me and then blinks with his right eye.
I've just read up on it and learned that hamsters only blink with one eye because they are prey animals and rarely blink in front of a human who can be seen as a big predator.
It went on to say that a hamster only blinks in front of a human he trusts.
I'm really chuffed with that.

Re: Rodney
I don't know if it might be the same with Syrians, but gerbils wink as a sign of pleasure and maybe submission/trust. They often wink while eating something delicious. They may wink back if a person winks at them, and very occasionally may wink at a person unprompted (there's no greater compliment than this from a gerbil). It's also lovely to give a gerbil a new food and see them winking away as you know then it's going down well!
I noticed my Robo used to wink when eating too.

Definitely a climbing advantage. Our other Syrian Rory tries to climb too but he's a bit on the plump side and can't pull his weight up like Rodney can.
