Sexing Russian Dwarf Hamster
Hi I’m new on this forum! I got my Russian dwarf as a baby in March. I was informed that the Hamster is Female, but upon recent inspection I’m questioning whether they are actually a Male. On Saturday I saw something on Ponyos tummy, today it became a lot more noticeable and I worried that it’s a sore, but I think it’s possibly a scent gland that has become dirty.
Has anyone got any advise? TIA

Re: Sexing Russian Dwarf Hamster
I can’t really see to well from the photo tbh but I would guess you may have a male.
The scent gland is very dark in the photo, sometimes you need to gently clean them with damp cotton wool & you do need to keep an eye on them for infection. Sometimes they just become more obvious or look wet or greasy when a ham has been doing a lot of scent marking particularly when moving into a new home or after cage cleaning.

Haha it’s hard getting a decent photo! I have given Ponyo a little clean up, and will definitely keep an eye out. Thank you
